Description

SUPER RARE ORIGINAL gatefold issue of this 1975 Turkish psych MASTERPIECE by Baris Manco, "2023" on the Yavuz label.  For those in the know on Turkish psych, Baris was one of the leaders of the style, and was featured on comps like "Have Nargila".  "2023" was his concept album - and it's a STUNNING and ambitious bit of Eastern prog psych incorporating its own ethnic Turkish instruments and rhythms with stylings from top UK prog psych bands like ELP, Genesis and Pink Floyd.  Leadoff track "Acih'da Baga Vir", for example, mixes some excellent trippy Turkish rhythms and instruments with some WILD synthesizer sounds that recall the duck-like noises that Keith Emerson made in "Aquatarkus".  "Uzun Ince Bir Yoldayim" is the Middle Eastern Pink Floyd - a great drifty prog/psych feel with flute, soaring synthesizer washes and sleepy vocals - real late night cosmic psychedelia here.  The melody and style strongly recall the sleepy grandiose feel of Genesis' "Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats" with a Turkish feel, while the rumbling bass recalls Pink Floyd's "Careful With that Axe, Eugene".  And the Floyd parallel continues on Side 2 with the 13-minute track "Baykoca Destani", which actually starts off with the VERY SAME bird sound effects used in Pink Floyd's "Cirrus Minor"!   A truly great masterpiece of Turkish prog/psych, as ambitious as it is psychedelic - and this is a LONG album too, clocking in at just over 50 minutes!  Unfortunately, these original Turkish pressings rarely show up in conditions beyond beat up, and this one's seen its share of play too.  The flimsy cover has some major ring wear and tears on the front and back (the worst tears are shown in the pic on the front cover).  Inside, the beautiful gatefold artwork is in great shape.  The vinyl, as true of all Turkish pressings, plays with crackle and surface noise, but it's not unlistenable and would grade VG.  Winning bidder pays $3.00 media shipping in the US, $6 to Canada, $11 everywhere else.  Paypal, Bidpay, cash, checks and money orders accepted.
