THE BAND'S first album has always been regarded as one of the best debut records of all time. So good in fact that many doubted the possibilty that their sophomore release would even come close to the standards already set. We needn't have worried as 'Straight Shooter' delivered everything and more.
Looking back its difficult to imagine just how the band managed to write such consummate material hot on the heels of their debut album - less than a year in fact. Every song here is a keeper - there's not one track that you could identify as a filler - and the arrangements are so dynamic and thoughtful. The lead track 'Good Lovin' Gone Bad' sets the scene - with its big hook and delicious riff. A Bad Co. classic from top to toe. 'Feel Like Makin' Love' moves the template one stage further...giving them the radio staple that they needed and a track that in retrospect would be identified as possibly their most accomplished work. 'Shooting Star' is the albums masterpiece, containing a lyrical tale that could be applied to any rock casualty but might have been specifically written with Paul Kossoff in mind.
Paul Rodgers excels on all levels utilizing his blues holler to maximum effect and crafting some of the greatest hard rock songs of all time. His rappore with guitarist Mick Ralphs is uncanny, the two locking into a lean and mean fighting machine rivaling Page and Plant.
Produced by Ron Nevison the album exudes class and sophistication but doesn't hold back on the raw blues influences premiered in Rodgers and Kirke's previous band Free. This is with out doubt my personal favourite Bad Co album, a record that helped secure their reputation as one of the greatest British hard rock bands of the seventies.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Vinyl: Nice clean and shiny condition. Some evidence of spindle marks on labels and a few light scuff marks - mainly from sliding in and out of the cardboard inner sleeve. Grades as a very nice MINT-!
Cover: Again, virtually no signs of use. Crisp and sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Stiff, straight and fully formed spine! Beautiful and impossible to find like this 41 years after release. Grades as top MINT-!
