THE BABY HUEY STORY - ORIGINAL PRESSING - CURTOM RECORDS - ABSOLUTE MINT DJ COPY - MUST SEE!
JUST REMOVED FROM (35) YEARS OF CLIMATE CONTROLLED STORAGE!
This auction is for a rare and absolute MINT condition PROMO (DJ) original pressing of THE BABY HUEY STORY by legendary funk artist Baby Huey and the Babysitters.
As a radio DJ for nearly 30 years, I received this promo copy in 1971. The LP was not played at the station or by me. I filed it in my collection and to this date have never played it!
TO REPEAT... THIS LP HAS NEVER TOUCHED A TURNTABLE!
If you have been looking for this album, and you need your purchased vinyl to be MINT, then this is the album for you.
***Please note that I have placed a reserve price on this item of slightly less that $25***
James Thomas "Baby Huey" Ramey was slightly over six feet tall, weighed between 350 and 400 pounds, but could move and groove on stage just like "The Godfather", James Brown.
He named his group the Babysitters and together they played high-energy funk, soul, and R & B that could whip a crowd into a frenzy.
Just turning the corner from being a regional phenom, more and more music fans were taking notice, with even national appearances on shows like Merv Griffin.
By the Fall of 1970, the group was set to break out big. They were signed to Cutom records and taken under the wing of label owner Curtis Mayfield.
Then on October 28, 1970, while working on the debut album with Curtis, Huey died of apparent heart failure in his hotel room. He was just 26.
And news articles of the time spoke of Baby Huey being the third to die within a
month's time. First came Jimi Hendrix, then Janis Joplin, then Baby Huey.
In 1971, Curtom released the LP "The Baby Huey Story: The Living Legend. At the time of his death, Huey had not yet enjoyed national fame, so except for in the midwest, the album sold rather poorly,
However, generations of fans continue to consider the albums a benchmark in the history of Soul, Funk and Hip Hop music.
According to liner notes on the album, personnel on the sessions included:
MELVIN "DEACON" JONES, PLATO JONES, MOOSE, DAVID COOK, DAN ALFANO, DAN O'NEIL, ALTON LITTLE, RENO SMITH, OTHELLO ANDERSON, BYRON WATKINS, RICK MARCOTTE, JACK RENEE & PHILLIP HENRY
