Love (Arthur Lee) first album on the very rare gold label Elekra mispress. Possibly the ultimate Love rarity.
When this lp was released in early '66 the most popular lp format was mono. When Elektra realised that the orders for the lp were predominantly mono they took some of the stereo pressings and slapped mono labels on them to pass them off as mono.
This is one of those incredibly rare pressings. The sleeve and labels have the mono catalogue number (EKL 4001) but the matrices indicate that this is the stereo pressing (EKS 4001). One listen confirms that this is indeed a stereo mix.
There were so few gold label copies sold that I have never seen a true stereo copy of this pressing even advertised. It took me years to track this one down. The gold labels were replaced by orange ones when Polydor took over distribution of Elektra in late '66 early '67. By then this lp had sold only a handful of copies. This is a seriously rare lp in any form. In this mispressed form it is all but unique.
The lp is in stunning condition - a conservative excellent. It is flat and very shiny: it looks like a brand new lp except for a couple of very light marks that do not affect play in any way. The sound is fantastic throughout. I have played the lp once to grade the sound. It doesn't look as if it has had many more spins than that (see photos).
The labels are nrear mint. They show no signs of wear at all, no spindle marks and no tears stickers or writing: stunning.
The cover is in excellent condition. It has some light wear to the corners and edges but nothing of any note. There is no ringwear of creasing.
This is a final upgrade copy. The light marks and wear mean that it is not near mint but it will not disappoint. This is an excellent copy of a seriously rare lp.
