Description
An original 1st mono press of AIP on the UK Atlantic label from 1968. Matrix A1/B1 - very 1st cut. At 1st release in 1968 stereo was very much in the ascendancy and most 1st pressing are, consequently, in stereo. But it's really worth seeking out those very 1st mono copies that are that bit harder to find - I can assure you. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original mono cover with pinched spine. Also included is the original plastic bag warning inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) A bit of a stunner quite frankly - and has seen precious little use. Under close inspection I'm struggling to make out a single mark - sweet! A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one slight deviation. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Worth mentioning that I've witnessed some ultra-clean spotless and perfectly sounding vinyl in my time - but this Lp is in a class of it's own..it's as if 50 years have passed in a flash! The waste wax is still present! As mentioned above I think it really is worth going the extra mile and insisting on the mono for this release. The audio quality is superb and that's despite it being a live performance. A fantastic rendition of her work which is as close to FAULTLESS as is humanly possible. Interference is pretty much non-existent. I have it cranked up on FULL...Not only is it a fantastic rendition of her work, but the clarity of the performance is just breathtaking..ultimate audio. Even in the quietest moments just clean audio with no background...hear every last clap,, every breath, and every last piano tinkle in perfect mono clarity. All I could detect were a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated spots - and one pop during 'Dr Feelgood'. FINAL UPGRADE...
Cover (Ex-) Lovely condition and that iconic front image just looks marvellous. Would grade slightly higher but for some black marker pen on the rear. Shiny unaged front with no creasing and it lies totally flat. One tiny sticker removal mark top left. The rear looks great with only a touch of surface wear in a couple of spots. There's '335' written in black marker pen over 'Aretha' on the rear - see pic. Edge wear is very light and the openings are still sharp. The spine is 100% intact and overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A lovely specimen.
Inner (Ex-) Light ageing. No splits.
