Description
RCA VICTOR SORIA SERIES LD 6065.
THE ROYAL BALLET: GALA PERFORMANCES. Ernest Ansermet cond. The Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden. Mono 2-LP set.
Shaded dog on label. Stamping numbers of Sides 1-4 are (in order): 3S, 1S, 1S, 1S.
A very scarce set, though it has been reissued numerous times. This is an *original* from the late 50s-early 60s. The box has a penciled "Christmas 1961" on the front.
The records average only VG: there are some scratches and scuffs, with Side 2 seeming to have the most, and Side 4 coming in second. I've tried to show the surfaces on some of the photos. I'll be honest and say that you will not enjoy a totally silent background. The LPs are housed in plain paper sleeves.
The outer box is VG, with some staining at the bottom of the rear panel, and the "Christmas 1961" notation at the top of the front panel. The inner cardboard holder and black spine hub are quite nice, with a small nick on the inner panel surface (photo #5). The black spine hub is quite nice, and will look great on the shelf.
The booklet and "program" (photo #8) are in good condition, with some wrinkling seen on the left side back cover (photo #7).
Though far from pristine, this copy will provide a decent placeholder until that rare mint copy comes your way.
