Description
This is a digital copy of one of Andy Warhol's rarest record covers.
Andy Warhol experimented with silk screen printing in the early sixties, first making copies of black and white newspaper advertisements.
He was one of eleven artists invited to participate in the exhibition "The Popular Image" at Washington's Gallery of Contemporary Art between April and June 1963.
Finding some blank record covers at The Factory, he silkscreened the "Giant Size $1.57 Each" design, copied from an advertisement, on to 75 covers. These were sold at the exhibition. There was also an LP with interviews with all eleven artists included. It is unclear whether the record was included with the covers sold at the exhibition or whether it was included with a later printing when Warhol re-used the design on record covers, but with coloured backgrounds (red, green and yellow.) These later printings appear to be more common than the original white background.
This cover does not include a record. I've pictured a record to show the top opening cover the way the original was made.
The cover ships from Sweden and airmail postage will be $20
