Description
You are bidding on the following:
Artist: the brilliant Andy Partridge (c/o Ape Music, XTC et all).
Title: ‘Complicated Game: inside the songs of XTC’
Author: Andy Partridge & Todd Bernhardt
Original print in softback ISBN: 978-1908279781
Format: incredibly rare hardback version of the book! Only fifty copies were printed and produced and only offered for sale by the e-tailer ‘Burning Shed’ on 7th March 2016, and I was one of the lucky buyers that managed to secure a copy on that date.
Dimensions: height 22cm, width 15.5cm, thickness 3.3cm approx.
Weight: including outer box 1kg exactly.
Rarity: what makes this all the more special and such a rarity is that each copy of the hardback book came with a totally unique and ‘one off’ dust sheet, which was personally painted and designed & then signed by Andy Partridge himself. I was lucky enough the secure the copy with the cover designed with a track off the 1983 album ‘Mummer’, the opening track ‘Beating of Hearts’. This is a ‘one off’ with no copies existing anywhere…. simply no other copies available globally or ever again!! Outer cover is signed by Andy on the rear of the dust cover in pencil, and the hardback book has a book plate again signed by Andy in blue biro-style pen.
Release date: this was clearly a huge project for Andy, and despite knowing that this was a ‘pre-order’ sale back in March 2016, nothing prepared me for the long wait! The book was eventually issued to me within the final batch that Andy had designed, and I received the book in early May 2017, some fourteen months later. I have email confirmation of the transaction and am the owner of this book.
Condition: I have only ever handled this book with ‘white gloves’ and it remains in exactly the same condition as I received it over four years ago! It comes with the original ‘Burning Shed’ packaging box, the original tissue, and the book remains completely unread! Overall, this is in superb excellent plus (+) condition book if not higher and has been handled marginally and with respect for the super rarity that it is. Please note that the artist has handled the dust cover, designed, painted and signed the fragile paper – there is a very tiny amount of handling marks linked to this dust cover, which is to be expected in these circumstances. I have taken detailed close-up shots with my iPhone 11 and please do study the pictures in detail!
Finally, the pandemic has affected us all in different ways, and unfortunately, I find myself with no choice but to sell some of my prized possessions, and I hope in selling this book that it brings as much enjoyment to the proud owner as it has to me over the last four years. As a massive XTC fan since 1979 this has been a tough decision, but needs must in these difficult times….
