Andrew Hill COMPULSION!!!!! 4217 Blue Note original 1960s 'High Fidelity' New York USA Freddie Hubbard, John Gilmore, Cecil McBee, Richard Davis, Joe Chambers, Nadi Qamar, Renaud Simmons "A celebration of the Afro-American musical experience." This record is shocking in its intensity. Recorded and wax stamped both sides by (Rudy) Van Gelder, in the dead wax is hand etched, BNLP-4217 A (Side 1) and BNLP-4217-B (Side 2.) The record has been gently played only a few times, with very light scuffs or scratches, and nearly invisible spindle marks on the label. Any static or pops are minor and do not distract from the frenetic progressive jazz. We recorded it with a new needle to a USB, to listen repeatedly for unwanted noise- this is a very clean sound with few clicks during the music. The record itself seems to have an 'overspray' look, perhaps from being previously cleaned. (Seen in photo.) The label (Side B) has a slight lightened area which makes us think a cleaning attempt was made, although the close-up photo makes us wonder if it was original printing? We will leave the next cleaning to the new owner, as purists have their preferences. It comes in a plastic sleeve, accompanied by a white inlay sleeve, shipped outside of the album cover in a record mailer with added cardboard for protection. The album cover shows signs of handling and wear, although the seams are still intact, with only a couple minor chips. Front has sticker price remnants and ink written price. Back has small bubbled areas, and is stamped 'Audition Copy'. Visually the photos give you a good idea of the record cover. We'd modestly grade any record with this sound quality at least as 'good', due to the scarcity of this album we feel confident to grade the record as 'very good'. Shipped USPS Priority.
