Comments:

Alison MacCallum (born 7 April 1951), also written Alison McCallum, is an Australian rock singer from the late 1960s and 1970s. Her two studio albums are Fresh Water (March 1972) and Excuse Me (October 1975). In March 1972 she issued her most successful charting single, "Superman", which peaked at No. 12 on Go-Set's National Top 40. In August that year MacCallum provided lead vocals for the Labor Party's campaign theme song, "It's Time", for the 1972 election. By the late 1970s, she had concentrated on session work and then "disappeared from public view". According to Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, MacCallum was "a soul/blues stylist of considerable flair and passion.

The first of 2 albums by Alison, this is far more representative of her true style & was the first L.P. ever by an Aussie female artist to make the album charts. Alison is blessed with an outstanding blues/rock voice which has been compared to Janis Joplin in it's abandon but is probably less gravelly than hers. Perhaps Tina Turner or Aretha Franklin is closer the mark as far as vocal range but Alison rocks much harder. 2 great examples of that are her first hit single, the The Easybeats' Harry Vanda-George Young written 'Superman' & her great version of the The Rolling Stones' "The Last Time". However this Aussie gal (just 21 at the time) can REALLY wail the blues too as on her superb update of the old 1920's standard "Organ Grinder Blues' & Marc Bolan's "Lean Woman Blues" which both feature some brilliant extended guitar solos from Aussie legend Phil Manning.
Other highlights include the Ted Mulry written "Take Me Back' which was a double sided hit with 'Superman' & another rock ballad "Any Way You Want Me (also the album's re-ssue title) which fully showcases Alison's extraordinary vocals from smoky low notes through a full octave key change showcasing her joyous shrieking howl. Also recommended are the big brass led rocker "I Ain't Eatin' Dinner Tonight", the bluesy soul of "If It Ain't Hard It Ain't Easy" (featuring another great Oz rock lady Bobbi Marchini prominent in the backing vocals) & maybe best of all the smouldering rock/funk of the title track "Fresh Water".

This record is very clean. Side one has no marks at all and side two has a some very light hard to see marks that do not have an effect on the sound. It plays great loud and clean with no background noise.

Sleeve: E

This gatefold record cover is very clean except for some minor shelf wear.
