Still in original shrink wrap.




This very rare vinyl record is highly collectable
among Alison Krauss lovers and vinyl collectors alike.
As such, I will skip the selling hype and focus
on describing the sound quality and cover condition.



Vinyl

This record is from my LP collection.  It is used. 
"Light wear" would be an accurate description of both
the vinyl and the cover.  There are no scratches, etc. on either side
of the vinyl.  There are a couple extremely light scuff marks
from the original paper sleeve on each side. 

Several years ago I began storing the record
in a MOBIL FIDELITY SOUND LAB protective LP sleeve (pictured). 
The gloss of the vinyl is very liquid and a deep black. 
The labels are also in excellent condition (see photos). 

I clean this LP before playing it with
my OKKI NOKKI record cleaning machine. 
The OKKI NOKKI is similar to the
VPI 16.5 but cleans better -- in my opinion.




Sound quality: side A


I do not believe that any 13 year old used record is
in excellent OR near mint condition.  This is a personal opinion. 

This being said, side A of this LP is in very very good condition. 
Aside from a single pop or twoside A plays flawlessly
for me on my Pro-Ject Xtension 10 turntable
with Celebration II mc cartridge.


Side A is loud and busy with voices and many instruments
playing across the sound stage. 
Alison is alwaysdead center in the room -- whether she is singing or playing. 

The sound stage is very wide and open --
sometimes beyond the placement of my Sonus Faber speakers. 
I have an SACD version of this record and
the LP sounds much more alive and organic. 
While the SACD presents a perfect (digital) sound
I get the feeling from listening to this LP that
the music is actually being created in the very moment that I am listening to it. 



Listening to side A casually is a joy. 
But sitting down and listening to side A with a critical ear is fantastic. 
Most critical audiophiles would enjoy listening to side A. 
It is that good.



Sound quality: side B

Musically, side B is much quieter, softer, and simpler than side A. 
As such, the light wear from playing
and inherent pressing imperfections are somewhat more present. 

A pop or two seems more pronounced due to the softness of the music
and the use of fewer instruments on these tracks as opposed to how
a pop may sound on the louder, more complex tracks of side A. 

There is some slight recurring surface noise
(due to a pressing issue, I believe) on a track or two. 

The LP plays fine, as it should.  But side B is less distraction free than side A.
Again, this may be due to the original pressing or the light wear from playing. 

 

As a vinyl collector I expect a used record not to be perfect. 
If you are looking a dead quiet (digital) sound
then buy the SACD.  
It just depends on how critical a listener you are.



Cover:

The cover is still in the original shrink wrap. 
There are no noticeable tears, etc in the plastic shrink. 
I keep this LP in a plastic slip cover so removing the shrink is your choice. 

There are no significant bends, creases, etc.
 in the cover -- but for normal storage (see photos).



Extras included:

I store the LP in a MOBIL FIDELITY SOUND LAB vinyl LP sleeve. 
This is specially designed to prevent static and dust build up. 
In addition, this sleeve will not scratch your vinyl
as you remove and sleeve the LP.


I store the LP in a protective plastic slip case. 
An original LP sleeve with specific song and recording
information and promotional commentary
about the band is included (see photos).


In summary, this rare vinyl LP is in very very good condition. 
Most critical listeners would enjoy
having it as part of their collection. 

If you want a perfect (digital) sound recording
then you would be better off buying the SACD.
