Description
There's an interesting story behind this item: some years back, when music stores were liquidating their old stocks of used LPs, I bought the Bobby Darin album referenced herein as part of a large batch of purchases. When I got the album home, I realized with excitement that Darin himself had signed it. Clearly, the owners of the store were so eager to get rid of unsold LPs, they didn't take time to notice that a real gem was getting away. The fact that the signature was located on the back cover, rather than the front (which had no white space), no doubt assisted in its escape.
The autograph, positioned next to a printed message that Darin "wrote" in praise of his arranger, is also interesting for being an inscription to specific people, rather than a mere signature. It reads, "To Michael & Curtis. Luck to you, Bobby Darin." The line of the final "n" in "Darin" is extended so that it moves off the cover and reappears below as a curve or squiggle.
Condition of the vinyl itself is only fair. On my system, it plays fine without any skips, but there are scuffs, pops and surface noises on one side in particular. But that of course is not what makes this item rare and special.
