Title: Vivaldi / The Four Seasons – S.Accardo / violin

Original Dutch pressing from 1988 on PHILIPS Digital Classics, 422 065-1. The record was pressed exclusively in Holland, no other country. Beautiful gatefold-sleeve with photos of “Il Cremonese”-Stradivari and linernotes in French, Italian, German & English. Recorded “live” in Cremona, Italy, September 1987. S.Accardo performs on 4 different violins built in Cremona by STRADIVARI: 1. of 1715 “ Il Cremonese” ( “ex-Joachim” ) 2. of 1718 “ Firebird “ 3. of 1727 “Hart “ ( “ex-Francescatti” ) 4. of 1717 “ ex-Reynier “.

Considered among audiophile music aficionados to be one of the best violin- / chamber-music records ever made.

Condition: this chamber-music performance has many quiet parts and it’s hard to find a copy playing in mint- all of the time . This copy for auction was my starter-copy some years ago, it took me a long time ( and some big bucks ) to find a real mint- copy for my own collection. I have listened very carefully to the whole album again from the beginning to the end, both on my Rega Planar 9 w. EINSTEIN mc cartridge and also on my LINN Axis w. DENON mc cartridge. Here is my complete and honest description:

Side 1 : looks ex in daylight, only under a real strong light you can see several tiny sleeve- & hairlines plus a few other tiny marks, nothing real feelable deep or long, but I lower the visual grading to vg/vg+. These marks cause the following sound-imperfections:

1. Spring - slight background-noise in some of the quieter parts, some occasional tics in the background. There's one loud tic at the end of the largo , here the needle makes a short skip but continues playing, it's not that harsh, I think only 2 notes of the violin-motif are missing. This is the worst track, playgraded g- due to the skip

2. Summer – one longer quiet part with more constant soft tics in the background, the rest plays okay, playgraded vg

3. Autumn – few tics before & at the beginning of both allegros, less than 10 seconds, rest plays fine, playgraded ex

Side 2 : looks mint- in daylight & normal artificial light; under a real strong light it looks mint--/ex++ due to a few superficial sleevelines.

There's one singular soft tic in 4. Winter, the rest of this track and complete tracks 5. & 6. play in mint- all of the time.

The gatefold-cover has intact seams/spine with just a few mm of rub on only one of the top-seams; there's a tiny 2 mm tear at the back of the opening; front,back & inner are fine; overall ex++.

Grading & Cleaning:

• the record has been cleaned on my professional HANNL record cleaning machine

• after that I playgraded it (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN:TU-3 Super Fine Line ( please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment )

• I also visually graded the record under a strong light

• only an unplayed record is mint, the highest grading for a used record is mint- ! My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg.

• cleaned records are stored in a new deluxe innersleeve and they are placed in a new PVC protection-sleeve !
