ISLAND RECORDS cat# ILP-967 ~ MONO 1967 Original 1967 psychedelic LP
One of the best early UK Prog Psych lps ever, loaded with all great tracks, well arranged and brilliant music! Peter These lads were already seasoned musicians with The VIP'S, having issued 5 great French eps, and 4 singles in Britain - before this change of direction. It was no 'sea change, though, as the strong soulful r'n b vocal is just embellished with heavier instrumental power. Take note - this was neither laboured, derivative or whimsical psych, it's determined rock, and no mistake! A good foundation in 1967, for progressive recordings that were to follow, only with another name change to 'Spooky Tooth'. The following album 'It's All About (A Roundabout)' was also good stuff (and by this time psych was 'no stranger' and sold way more records!). Here they were pioneering wonderful dimensional psych music, and cut a tremendous record. Guy Stevens produced expertly, as became his renown with such as Free. The compositions are consistent and fantastic recordings - few 'rated' rare psychedelia albums are as good in my opinion. (and I've had Dr Z, July, Rainbow Ffolly and other 'big' albums) This is a fine piece, especially in such astoundng shape!WITH THIS PARTICULAR RECORD, I MAKE NO APOLOGIES FOR THE AUCTION PRICE - THIS ONE IS IN TOP SHAPE AND A DEFINITE 'KEEPER'!! Please do NOT ask about 'stamper numbers' or matrixes, there IS NOT a variety of pressings available and this is not a fake!! (the stamp shows only the catalogue number anyway). IF you would like to own it but cannot afford it - be sensible, everyone is in that bracket for something! I also avoid crooks who ask for part refunds, return an empty box or a wrecked disc in exchange etc. Those tricks don't succeed and may get them banned off eBay ...because they are aware too! Condition; The VINYL is wonderful NM CONDITION with FULL shine! Plays magnificently - No kidding, this is the original super-rare LP in the toppest of top shape.
STEREO LABLES are NEAR MINT, but as you can see the side 2 lable got slightly mispressed. The title is a mis-pressing, as it has "TALE" in the singular! I think all copies may have this, as they had a limited pressing run and sold few. ..... The FRONT LAMINATED CARD COVER grades EX. No seam splits and minimal handling wear. A small sticker I kept on, but it's removable. The rear has light ringwear but is nice & clean. The title edge is lovely, see pic. It was NOT A 'FLIPBACK' construction cover. An outstanding copy indeed - there aren't many of this lp in such condition, so it is an extremely desirable investment album. *
