There are two Rudy Van Gelder Prestige sessions on this original LP. The first was on June 2, 1953 and it featured along with Art Farmer on trumpet: Jimmy Cleveland on trombone, Oscar Estelle on alto and baritone, Clifford Solomon on tenor, Quincy Jones on piano and arrangements, Monk Montgomery on bass and Sonny Johnson on drums. They play WORK OF ART; THE LITTLE BANDMASTER; MAU MAU and UP IN QUINCY’S ROOM. The second session, recorded on June 7, 1954 features Farmer with Jimmy Cleveland on trombone, Charlie Rouse on tenor, Danny Bank on baritone, Horace Silver on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums. Their selections are: WILDWOOD; EVENING IN PARIS; ELEPHANT WALK and TIJUANA. This LP has 446 WEST 50TH ST. N.Y.C on the label. This is a Mono recording.

I’ve rated this LP as VG+ for the following reasons. The vinyl is clean on both sides, except for a surface mark on Side A Cut 3, which does not interfere with play. Otherwise, the vinyl is clean. There is no sign of wear around the spindle hole on either side. The cover is in excellent condition, with some slight wear on the front of the cover and some discoloration on the liner notes. The LP is in its original glassine sleeve. The original price for the LP is in ink on the liner notes at $3.69. Don’t you wish you could buy it for that now?
