ART BLAKEY - ORGY IN RHYTHM Volume 1
A truly impressive condition copy of this original US press 1959 jazz rarity with gleaming vinyl and superb MONO sound quality throughout

Even at 67 years of age I still, just occasionally, experience the delight of placing a piece of vinyl on the turntable and it stops me in my tracks - this is one of those records that does exactly that! Nice thick, weighty and completely flat gleaming vinyl in excellent plus (EX+) condition, retaining a wonderful jet black sheen and only when viewed closely under a bright light do a few extremely faint, and strictly surface only, lightest of light line scuff marks come into view - non-obvious, purely superficial, and not impinging upon the wonderful MONO audio quality at all. These superficial scuff lines are slightly more prevalent on side 2 so if I was being really picky I would grade the condition of the vinyl as excellent for side 2 and excellent plus for side 1. Excellent plus (EX+) condition labels - with original pressing "47 West 63rd" circular text and deep grooves on both sides, the labels are virtually unmarked except for just a few very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each and some very minor fading at the bottom right of the side 1 label. Clearly this record has been sparingly played. The original iconic front-side laminated laminated outer sleeve is in excellent (EX) condition - firm, unscuffed edges, apart from a 3cm thin scuff in the middle of the bottom edge, including a rigid spine (with no spine text - another very early pressing identifier). Each corner remains a near perfectly refined right angle with barely any rubbing at all, there is no creasing and, amazingly, only the hint of some very mild age discolouration towards the spine edge on the reverse side. All photos and text remain vibrant, crystal clear and perfectly intact with the front-side photo as iconically impressive as ever. Note the horizontal "47 West 63rd St., New York 23" text at the bottom of the reverse side - again indicative of very early Blue Note pressings. The quality of the audio is excellent plus (EX+) - no rotational skips (you might come across the very occasional isolated low level light background click - I counted three in total - caused by a random dust particle caught in a groove due to decades of storage), and no repeats, jumps, crackle/interference at all - stunning, and so impressive for a record of this age. Great tone throughout with every note played coming across crystal clear. In short, mindblowing!
With Art Blakey & Arthur on drums, Jo Jones and "Specs" Wright on drums and tympani, SABU on bongo and timbales, "Potato" Valdez and Jose Valiente on congas, Ubaldo Nieto on timbales, Evilio Quintero on cencerro, maracas and tree log, Herbie Mann on flute, Ray Bryant on piano, and Wendell Marshall on bass...well, no wonder the music is mindblowing. Clearly this was a record way ahead of it's time and it is little wonder that original 1950's Blue Note pressings are so sought after.

This LP comes in a plain white poly-lined inner sleeve (there is no original Blue Note inner sleeve).
