Extremely RARE US mono first pressing of Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers` eponymously-titled album, also known as "Moanin`", their debut for Blue Note Records (November 1958).
"Moanin' includes some of the greatest music Art Blakey produced in the studio with arguably his very best band. There are three tracks that are immortal and will always stand the test of time. The title selection is a pure tuneful melody stewed in a bluesy shuffle penned by pianist Bobby Timmons, while tenor saxophonist Benny Golson's classy, slowed "Along Came Betty" and the static, militaristic "Blues March" will always have a home in the repertoire of every student or professional jazz band. "Are You Real?" has the most subtle of melody lines, and "Drum Thunder Suite" has Blakey's quick blasting tom-tom-based rudiments reigning on high as the horns sigh, leading to hard bop. "Come Rain or Come Shine" is the piece that commands the most attention, a highly modified, lilting arrangement where the accompanying staggered, staccato rhythms contrast the light-hearted refrains. Certainly a complete and wholly satisfying album, Moanin' ranks with the very best of Art Blakey and what modern jazz offered in the late '50s and beyond." - Michael G. Nastos, allmusic.com

MINT- COVER in almost faultless condition. Please see photos for details.
- Original front-laminated US first pressing sleeve.
- Very slight off-white areas on the rear cover, with vague record outline.
- Small "O" stamp in blue ink (corner, top right).
- Also includes the original, custom-printed Blue Note Records inner sleeve in MINT- condition.
- Blue Note address stated as "43 West 61st St., New York 23" on back cover (at bottom, center).
MINT- RECORD that has seen only minimal use. Play-graded as having impeccable audio reproduction.
- Minimal sporadic background crackle in between some tracks.
- A few lightest hairlines, from sleeve removal only.
- Original deep groove pressing vinyl, 170 grams in weight.
- First pressing semi-gloss Blue Note labels with "47 West 63rd NYC" address.
- Two very light spindle lines on Side Two label, with "0" stamp in blue ink.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "BN-LP-4003-A 1" and "BN-LP-4003-B", respectively.
- Run-off grooves on both sides include the characteristic small Blue Note Records "ear" logo. Both sides of the record are stamped "RVG".
