Description

Recorded in RCA Studio No. 3, New York City on April 2 and 8, 1957 and an original 1958 RCA, Rockaway Pressing Plant release.

This an Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers “A Night in Tunisia” VIK Records LX-1115 mono from the RCA Victor subsidiary label VIK. It features a very early and rare sextet lineup of Bill Hardman (trumpet), Johnny Griffin (tenor sax), “Ferris Benda” (alto sax — actually Jackie McLean side-stepping his contract with Prestige), Sam Dockery (piano) and Spanky De Brest (bass) and is the only recorded instances of saxophonists Jackie McLean and Johnny Griffin playing together.
