ARETHA FRANKLIN John Hammond’s Own Acetate "Kissing By The Mistletoe”

Here is a rare and possibly unique acetate of Aretha Franklin’s “Kissing By The Mistletoe" formerly owned by the tracks’ producer, the legendary John Hammond. Hammond signed, discovered, or was integral to the careers of Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Pete Seeger, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many other world class musicians including George Benson.
This track first appeared on "An All Star Christmas”, a 1961 Columbia Records album featuring holiday songs by artists including Doris Day, Frankie Laine, Johnny Cash, Les Paul and Mary Ford and Ray Coniff, and was later issued as an Aretha single in 1963. We acquired this acetate in a group of discs from Hammond’s collection given to a musican acquaintance in 1972. Hammond’s name is on the sleeve and the artist, track and master number are written on the disc in grease pencil, which as usual for Columbia acetates of the time. Disc EX, sleeve has minor general wear. RARE!
We grade all records visually, cover first, then disc; using the abbreviations M / NM / EX / VG with + and -. We try to describe everything as accurately as possible, and spot check any vinyl flaw that looks like it might make a sound. We regularly receive praise for our grading, but as all grading is subjective, we are happy to give a full refund for anything you aren’t happy with—no questions asked.
