WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM, THAT'S WHAT I AM NOT
This is ARCTIC MONKEYS guvnor! The one. The one what we've all been waiting for. The fastest selling debut album in British music history. Musically, there's musical bits of The Stone Roses, What's The Story Morning Glory and Nevermind. As catchy as those reference points are, it's the lyrics that have won Arctic Monkeys the fiercely dedicated crowd very quickly: a mix of the observational storytelling of Davies and Weller crossed with the harsher documentary eye of Mike Skinner of The Streets and "Ghost Town" era Specials. Ranked one of Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
FAVOURITE WORST NIGHTMARE
While this sophomore release is unmistakably Arctic Monkeys, everything's a little more muscular and aggressive. Each song is embedded with revelatory moments, as if some sort of critical mass is achieved through skillful song craft and sharp arrangements until an explosive release of energy or emotion is inevitable. If the debut was full of tales of Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, the sophomore album is one that realizes that there’s Monday and beyond, too.
HUMBUG
Humbug, the third album from Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys, finds the band brimming with vim, vigor and new ideas. They brought in a new production accomplice, Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), for some of the recording. He generously hosted and produced tracks with them at his Joshua Tree studio. Then they rejoined forces with James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco), producer of the previous two Arctic Monkeys and Last Shadow Puppets albums, in Brooklyn, NY to complete the tracks that became Humbug. The album is a stunning set of songs both heavier and more lush than previous albums, but still full of the Monkeys usual punch and vitality.
SUCK IT AND SEEArctic Monkeys' fourth album, features 12 new songs produced by James Ford at the legendary Sound City Studios in Los Angeles. With Suck It and See the band perfectly mesh their hard and soft sides. The album is lyrically their most verbose since their record-breaking debut, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. From shimmering opener "She's Thunderstorms" to the brilliantly buoyant "Black Treacle" through to perfect closer "That's Where You're Wrong", Alex Turner brings an articulate melodic swagger to the proceedings. Suck It and See is not just the sound of a band working in perfect, energetic sync, it’s one of the year’s best albums.
AM
Arctic Monkeys highly anticipated fifth album, entitled AM, was produced by James Ford and co-produced by Ross Orton at Sage and Sound Recording, LA and Rancho De La Luna, Joshua Tree. The album features 11 new songs and the Record Store Day single "R U Mine?". Josh Homme, Pete Thomas and Bill Ryder-Jones all make guest appearances on AM as do the words of poet John Cooper Clarke, on the breakout single "I Wanna Be Yours."
