Label Conditions: Both immaculate: ultra clean, fresh and highly attractive with rich deep colour hue. Any spindle traces are minuscule and without any doubt, this quality vintage record has hardly been played.

Brief Info: Archie Fisher is a Scottish folk singer and songwriter, one this early album he is joined by Barbara Dickson who he quickly spotted as a highly gifted singer. The vocals on this set are largely shared and is a really superb folk album and one of the earliest Dickson appears on. It failed to chart and is elusive, this very early stereo copy in supreme condition with sound to match. A strongly recommended set for British folk lovers.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): a single format with front Clarifoil laminate. This covers all the edge folds and ends on the back via the spine edge. The back includes the mono/stereo peep-hole, here filled with the immaculate blue Decca inner to denote a stereo copy inside. The main back panel is unprotected with a matt surface. Printed and made in England by Robert Stace.

Lamination & Front: A superbly attractive front that retains the freshness of new. The laminate very shiny and clear with no lifting of dulling with barely a crease to be seen. Strong vibrant colour and minimal rim impression, they hardly get a great deal better.

Cover Back: Minimal traces of ageing on an unprotected surface, any discolouration faint as just seen near the top edge, that apart, this is close to as-made with any blemishes tiny and faint. The peep-hole crisp and totally undamaged.

Top Edge: Straight and unworn with minimal bowing as Clarifoil covers often have.

Bottom Edge: As above.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, very sharp with practically no wear at all, the fine exposed strip on the front where the laminate ends short is also clean and devoid of grubbiness. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced in any way.

Spine and Text: Solid, quite straight with no compression, any bowing very gentle, a trait these Decca covers have as Clairfoil tends to shrink over time and pulls in the card. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate.

Corners: Four very crisp and undinked corners with barely wear again. All retain near mint impressively defined shape.

Cover Summary: A superb all-round example of this colourful early 1970’s cover, one that will prove immensely difficult to find better. This beautiful item should please most-all collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: MINT(–): and again, they hardly get better. Clean, fresh with fantastic deep blue colour retained. Hardly any creasing at all, both window circles immaculate and the lining clear. No edge splits or repairs. Just a little seam adhesive darkening that is near impossible to avoid. This is British patented with ‘Foreign patents pending’ text and includes the 5-70 (May 1970) date code.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): and a mere whisker off Mint(–). A superb visual copy that is very clean with very fine shine and very solidly pressed. A copy hardly even played on all the evidence with any surface traces minuscule, even viewed critically under bright angled light. A hint of inner sleeve patterning on the run out areas being ultra critical, simply a harmless trait of a record not being removed from the inner for many years. This hardly even registers visually and has no affect whatsoever on sound. Visually a super record that should please most-all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality folk-style album plays even above it’s high visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely even registered and this is an exceptional clean pressing, but as you would expect from Decca, probably the finest record manufacturers in the UK (if not the world). Few copies will match or outperform this very early pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been very well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record, my first copy of this ever. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
