Description

ANTIQUE 8"  Full Mount Terrestrial Table Globe by Andrews Weyhe Perless Bardeen Costello

Globe is about 8" diameter, ring is 11 1/2" wide and Globe stands 15" Tall
This full mount terrestrial table globe appears to be made c1907 by Peerrless / CW Bardeen with influences of Andrews / Weyhe.   The base is like Peerless and the wood ring horizon ring is just like one of Andrews. I cannot see any markings on the globe or stand.  I do not know any more about who made this. It has a cast iron Meridian ring, a wooden horizon ring depicting months and zodiac signs, and a cast iron stand with paw feet.  The base has copper flashing in a few places. Not many 8" globes were produced and are much rarer than 12" and large ones.  Globes like this were offered in three configurations;  a basic mount, a Meridian ring and a wooden horizon ring,  each one as an upgrade, the latter being the most rare.
The globe has great patina with some overall yellowing and a small amount gold paint on the bottom near the South Pole. There is a dark line 2 inches long and one-sixteenth of an inch wide at the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa
There is some paper loss on the wooden ring at the month of July. There is a crack or fracture line on the metal Meridian at the 70th mark near the top. It is hard to see and I do not know if it is broken or just a fracture line as it seems very tight and I did not try to pull on it.
