Description
BILL DOWNS/VARIOUS-THE NATION'S NIGHTMARE (1952, CBS)
Condition of Cover: VG, some edgewear, small paper scuff lower front edge 1/4" long, very small. The number "33" written small in pen along spine in front. Small ding on spine on back side of cover, middle. Approx. 4" seam split on spine. Some shelfwear. Definitely a frameworthy front cover overall. Back side of cover has some foxing from age. Labels with Warhol artwork generally clean with some minor wear.
Condition of Record: Record is visual VG-. Played in its ENTIRETY, Side 1 played VG with a quick forward skip approx. 1/6 of the way into playing the record. Side 2 played lower VG with 2 super quick forward skips before Bill Downs gets started on his report; only music.
Additional Information: Original. Front and back artwork and label art done by a young Andy Warhol.
Comments: Really interesting item here! Andy Warhol did the heroin and fight cover art for this CBS Radio Network broadcast. Side 1 is "Traffic in Narcotics," Side 2 is "Crime on the Waterfront." If you can imagine all the "old timey" stereotypes of how people talked about drugs, crime, addicts, and the mafia in the 40s and 50s, all the tropes are here! I found listening to this incredibly informative, interesting, and entertaining. PLUS, the main attraction, the amazing Andy Warhol cover art! Have any questions, please ask. Grading Scale: My grading scale is as follows:
SEALED, M-, NM, NM-, EX+, EX, EX-, VG+, VG, VG-, G+. I do not sell anything lower than G+. My records are visually and play graded to check for accuracy. My VG+ should have little to no surface noise according to my turntable using a Grado cartridge, and my EX gradings are equivalent to Goldmine's VG++ grading, just more descriptive within the grading spectrum of VG++. My M- is open unplayed. My NM and NM- gradings are reserved for items opened once and played or essentially miniscule to no visible marks of any kind. Therefore, records that are often others' NM-, I will default to EX+ (this and high end VG++ records populate the EX+ grading). I generally default to VG on covers if the cover has any noticeable ringwear, surface wear, or seam splits. Please see abbreviation list. If you have any questions, please email me! NO REISSUES UNLESS STATED AS SUCH!!
