ANDY STARR AND THE CASINOS:
Just A Walkin' b/w Cruel World
Valiant Records DR 101 -- 45 rpm released in 1960
You'll have to look long & hard to find an original lst pressing of Andy Starr & The Casinos killer rockabilly 45 Just A Walkin' (matrix # DR-101A) b/w Cruel World (matrix # DR-101B). Vinyl is a clean VG with lotza scuffs and lite marks; plays better than visual grade (you can HEAR this 45 above). Labels have little wear. Have owned the record for years; bought it at a yard sale in Bethlehem, PA. Andy and the guys were from the Lehigh Valley.
I met Andy Starr (real name Andrew Zachar Jr.) more than a decade ago at a thrift store he and his wife operated along Route 309 in the Quakertown area. Andy was born in Bethlehem and passed away in 2009 at the age of 69. He was a nice guy and I recall him saying that he hoped one day to make a CD of the six songs he and his group recorded on their three records released on the Valiant, Arcade & Casino labels. All of the songs were strong, but Just A Walkin' was super strong. All-time fave rockabilly song around the world. Andy told me that he knew how popular his records were and had the 45s been given air play outside of Allentown, he would have had a major hit or two. He said some have sold for $1,000 and more over the years. His thrift shop was packed with second hand goods -- and, yes, that included a huge table loaded with 45s. But there were no Andy Starr records for sale in his shop. He kept them lovingly stored inside a glass checkout counter. The man was rightfully damn proud of those records. RIP Andy. You remain a shining starr !!!
