Original Cast Recording - Jeeves - (UK - Emidisc acetate - 1975) Ex-/Ex-
A possibly unique item - this is the Original Cast Recording of Andrew Lloyd Webber's only flop musical - Jeeves.
Written with Alan Ayckbourn, the production was dogged with problems and was being re-written even while it was being performed.
It initially opened at the Hippodrome in Bristol on 22nd March 1975, transferring to the Her Majesty's Theatre in London's West End on 22nd April 1975 - it closed a month later on 24th May 1975.
This acetate has a different track listing to the withdrawn MCA album from 1975 (MCF2726). It is known Andrew Lloyd Webber altered the order of the songs to make the album flow better and sound more cohesive.
I'm not exactly certain of the tracklisting, but this is what I could work out :
Side One 1. Overture / 2. ? (Instrumental) / 3. Code Of The Woosters / 4. ? / 5. Travel Hopefully / 6. Female Of The Species
Side Two 1. Today / 2. When Love Arrives / 3. Today (Reprise) / 4. ? / 5. Jeeves Is Past His Peak / 6. Half A Moment / 7. S.P.O.D.E.
I bought this LP in Bristol, so it may've belonged to one of the cast or even Andrew Lloyd Webber during the initial performances at The Hippodrome in March 1975 ?.
The cast includes : David Hemmings : Bertie Wooster / Michael Aldridge : Jeeves / Gabrielle Drake : Madeline Bassett / Bill Wallis : Sir Watkyn Bassett / Debbie Bowen : Sitffie Byng / Angela Easterling : Honoria Glossop.
It comes in a plain die cut cover which is clean and uncreased. Labels are clean and the acetate playing surface is clean and shiny with a couple of light paper scuffs, but no scratches. There are a few isolated faint 'ticks' every now and then, but these do not detract from the listening experience.
The record will be dispatched in a strong cardboard cruciform mailer with extra card either side for added protection.
