Label/Format: United Artists – Original Cream and Brown format with an over-print on the country of manufacture (please see label scan).

Label Conditions: Both clean and fresh looking with only slight discolour on the lightly raised bevel near the rim. Still highly attractive with only very light, few and faint spindle traces and no wear around the hole area. Clearly a record little handled or likely played and finding this title better will prove difficult.

Cat Number: UAG 29406.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 137 grams. a very good and above average weight for this label and era.

Rarity: Scarce: a copy like this with a near mint cover and record will be rare these days.

Matrix Nos: C 29406 A-1 / C 29406 B-1 These are huge, deeply punched and very pronounced and clear, they can be seen on my label scan. The UK pressings of this album had dual matrixes and one set were these German masters

Brief Artist & Album Info: ‘Wolf City’ was the band’s fifth album, following four other superb titles after breaking away from the original Amon Düül band due to musical differences and direction. Often compared to England’s Hawkwind, Amon Düül II made some of the most inventive progressive rock sounds from the early 70s. More intricate songs and less ‘basic’ than the early raw sound of Hawkwind, and generally less spacy sounding, Amon Düül II even had a female vocalist (Renate Knaup-Krotenschwanz). Personally I love all their early works and this is yet another great work. The importance of Amon Düül II within the ‘Krautrock’ genre is so often understated when compared to other classic bands like Can, Faust, Neu and Kraftwerk – it’s long time that record was put right. Another delicate non-laminated cover that will be near impossible to ever find better. The record looks and plays great and I doubt if it’s been on a deck many times.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): a gatefold format, not laminated. No country of manufacture is stated but it appears English due to the Liberty of London reference on the back and ALL text is English too.

Cover Front: Very fresh looking and impressive with very little to fault at all. The odd tiny surface mark but look hard under light. Any tiny hairline creases confined to the spine edge and just a light surface rub on the extreme right edge centre. Ultra clean and fresh, this front will prove very difficult to find better.

Cover Back: Very similar again with just a couple of light press marks seen under light. Crucially, both sides have no traces of ugly ringwear that blights these types so often, what an outstanding cover this is.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Looking terrific with nothing to fault, this is practically as new.

Top Edges: Just a small rub on the back near the right corner, little else and very straight and clean too.

Bottom Edges: Practically unworn up to the right corner tips.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, very sharp with barely any traces of any wear and gauranteed untrimmed. Record enters on the back edge, the front is fully ‘tucked under’ sealed.

Spine and Text: A fantastic, barely worn practically mint spine that will rarely be found better. Solid, thick, straight and square with barely a rub trace to be seen. All text and graphic is little short of pristine and ultra clean.

Corners: The spine pair are in oustandingly fine, little worn conditions. Light tip rubs to the right four only and all retain excellent shape.

Cover Summary: A very strong example, these old unlaminated prog cover are seldom seen this clean and attractive, the lack of rubbing and ringwear unusual, but most welcome of course. This exceptional example should please most-all collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(++): A plain white unlined, solid inner that has minimal trace of discolour, the slight traces are the only blemishes to this incredibly preserved inner sleeve.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: a very fine visual copy that is clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed. Just faint and fine surface marks seen under angled light, merely removal types that few, if any record this age will not have. Totally superficial of course and barely even seen with normal viewing. A copy modestly played which is unusual – for those who bought these German prog albums, most played them heavily – for fans of this genre, these were immensely popular. Visually a super record that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippetts or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This super record plays even above it’s high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very powerful sound. Any surface sounds barely even registered and no pops or clicks were noted, and few copies will play much better than this. Both channels are clean and sharp, clearly well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this Krautrock gem, this is still one of my favourites within its field. This copy will prove difficult to find significantly better and being a genuine German pressing, it’s likely to be one of the best detailed copies you will hear. A copy for the discerning collector, I can highly recommend this one again.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
