Great ORIGINAL United Artists Records 1st PRESSING Double LP Housed in Fabulous Laminated Gatefold Sleeve!
Highly collectable original 1971 UK 1st pressing DOUBLE LP SET from this legendary late 60s early 70s German krautrock psych / prog pioneers.
This incredible double album has been mine from new and I doubt if you can find a much better condition original 1st pressing copy! A beautiful laminated gatefold cover that will be near impossible to ever find better. Both records look and play fantastic. I have only played this album two times from new!! Once when originally purchased (I also bought this on cassette which is what I listened to also back then) and today as I type these comments. Both albums play superbly....absolutely breathtaking!!
This Amon Dull II double album represents an absolute milestone in progressive psychedelic music!! The band is in the grips of an overwhelming psychedelic possession culminating in this, their finest and most challenging recording. The musicianship is akin to an urgent and neuron shattering explosion through inner space. To me, this might be the pinnacle of kraut rock, pillaging the celestial spheres with manic textures and sonic explorations. Whereas a band like Pink Floyd would let their psychedelic explorations evolve as a natural consequence of a particular mood or setting, Amon Duul II at their peak were a more furious band where someone might have the impression that they had completely succumbed to the mind altering substance and were flailing and writhing in their drug induced torture. Simply an astounding performance!
A truly magical and important double album and one that needs to be in any serious 70's krautrock / prog / psych record collection!!
Both LP's are in stunning MINT condition.

(Stunning copy with beautiful gleaming vinyl surfaces with deep shine, only played two times from new! A superb visual and aural copy. Super clean, shiny, intense black and very heavily pressed. An exceptional looking pair with nothing more than a tiny few ultra faint, fine surface traces - mere removal blemishes that only just show with angled viewing that barely any records ever escape as the barest minimum. A set played two times only (from new) including my play-grade today!! Visually superb records that should please all collectors. I have seen brand new records with more marks than this! A copy hardly even played which is unusual – for those who bought these German prog albums, most played them heavily – for fans of this genre, these were immensely popular. These super records play up to their visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely even register and no pops or clicks were noted. Remember these albums have some very quiet passages that will test out any vinyl copy, but even these play very quiet. Clearly this has been very well stored and caringly looked after within a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this Krautrock classic. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended. Both records deliver fantastic audio throughout with great powerful sound clarity. A fabulous original UK 1st pressing of this classic krautrock double LP.)
Labels: EX (+)
(Very clean and highly attractive original Cream and Brown labels. Unmarked except for two small circular stamps on one side only of each disc (see pics). No spindle traces are evident. Clearly a record little handled or likely played and finding this title significantly better will prove immensely difficult if not near impossible!)
Gatefold Sleeve: Mint (-)
(A gatefold format, laminated front and back. Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford. An absolute stunning peach of a cover that will rarely ever be found better or even matched at all. A connoisseur standard cover in pristine preserved condition – one that time has forgotten. It will truly remind those around at the time what this once looked like when first issued, yes it really IS that good. The laminate gleams and is crystal clear so the incredible artwork can be enjoyed to full advantage. There is just a very small area of laminate blistering near the top right corner but no peeling. No friction rubs or dulling and any creasing is ultra fine, few and faint. The freshness and smooth finish has to be seen and felt to be believed, and even under light there are few marks or blemishes and even fine hairlines have largely been avoided. Up there with one of the very best Krautrock covers you will ever see. The inner gatefold is pristine with a great centre spread picture – set the controls for the heart of the universe! A pristine perfect middle that has a lovely reassuring 'creak' when opened, just like when first made. The spine is solid, thick, straight and square with all the text near perfect and unworn. Ultra clean and fresh, this beautiful gatefold sleeve will prove close to impossible to find significantly better)

1971 UK original 1st pressing issue of extremely hard to find double album by legendary German krautrock pioneers
On offer here, from my own collection, is a MINT condition original UK 1st PRESS of the classic AMON DUUL 1971 double album 'DANCE OF THE LEMMINGS', issued on the UK 1st press United Artists Records label. The two records are housed in beautiful original 1st press laminated gatefold sleeve.
In the early 70s, this version of Amon Düül II was churning out classic albums for fun! And here is another original UK 1st Pressing for your vinyl collection.
Dance of the Lemmings was the band’s third album, following on from the groundbreaking debut Phallus Dei and the previous album Yeti, after breaking away from the original Amon Duul band due to musical differences and direction. So often compared to Hawkwind, Amon Duul II made some of the most stunning progressive rock sounds from the early 70s. Long acid-trip progressive freakout tracks with a spacy type sound at times, but unlike the Hawks, Amon Duul II had a female vocalist (Renate Knaup-Krotenschwanz). Personally I love all their early albums and this is yet another great work, a challenging double set that ranks as one of their very best. The importance of Amon Duul II within the 'Krautrock' genre is so often understated when compared to other classic bands like Can, Faust, Neu and Kraftwerk – it’s long time that record was put right.
Outside of Germany, this album is known as "Dance of the Lemmings". This third album finds these Krautrock pioneers at the top of their game, as far as experimentation goes. And this album, like its predecessor, Yeti, was originally released as a double LP set. The first two sides of "Lemmings..." consists of bizarre music, consisting of vocals, jams, and bizarre effects. The third side consist of freaky spaced out experimental effects that sound a whole lot like Alpha Centauri-era TANGERINE DREAM (who were their contemporaries, after all). This stuff would fit fineon Rolf Ulrich Kaiser's Ohr label (the label TD, ASH RA TEMPEL, the original AMON DÜÜL with their album Para Dieswierts Düül, and others recorded for), although released on United Artists here in UK and presumably Liberty in Germany.
Then the final side simply consists of mindblowing lengthy riffing guitar-jams. If you enjoy CAN's "Tago Mago" but wondered how that album might be like if that band didn't rely so much on grooves and went for a more musical, psychedelic direction, then this is a great album to try. For the rest of you, still a highly recommended album for the adventurous listener.
"Dance Of The Lemmings" is such a wonderfully strange album, chaotic psychedelic folkish krautrock, with a jamming 'heavy' feel to the songs. Following on from 'Yet' here we have another double album by Amon Duul II and yet again they produce another masterpiece of krautrock and heavy progressive rock. Many people regard this as their best album and it's not hard to see why! The music contained on these grooves is loaded with amazing improvised psychedelic space krautrock and weird as hell vocals that could easily blow your mind. Anyway, you can file this wonderous double album together with Yeti and Tago Mago by Can at the top end of any best krautrock albums ever list! The two records are made up by 3 long pieces and 3 shorter instrumentals the first 2 long epics are maybe the best; Syntelman's March of the Roaring Seventies and Restless Skylight-Transistor-Child , staggering psychedelic space rock with lots of stuff going on and a lot of acoustic playing which welds together with the heavier guitars of old. The Marilyn Monroe-memorial-church is an improvistaion, pretty spooky and in places very cool and totally stoned out weird, sounding not to far away from early Tangerine Dream. The final three closing songs, or instrumentals, since there are no vocals are the most straight hard rocking stuff on the album and very nice, great riffs repeated over and over like your typical krautrock with thudding addictive basslines. Needless to say this is essential krautrock that you must have. A masterpiece of progressive music. A truly great band, and this rare original double album is quintessential Krautrock.
This astonishing double album is a 'MUST HAVE' for 70s KRAUTROCK afficionados, seldom comes up for sale and even less so in such superb condition.
