Not that they couldn't have done it without him but the production speaks for itself. The songs are definitely the softest, most radio friendly stuff they've done to date but they're fully immersed into this sound now and dang it if they didn't do it better than almost anyone else around this time period. Has some big hits on it too; "Tin Man" and "Lonely People" were both Top Ten hits (top 5 for the latter!). Martin's orchestration is all over this one too, giving a baroque feel to the proceedings which had been pretty foreign up to this point. In fact, the sound change is so severe in places that you'd never be able to guess this was the same band who wrote "Horse With No Name" unless you already knew. Take "You" for example, a huge departure if I've ever heard one. The songs are great, with beautiful and sunny melodies all over the place. I think this is their best album up to this point, even surpassing the debut. It appeals to all my sensibilities from top to bottom, making it a very enjoyable outing.
