Description
10" acetate from Dave Dixon, who released a four singles between 1954-1961, including the great Hey Hey Pretty Baby on Home of the Blues (see acetate for this in other auction). Don't Make Me Cry is every bit as good and was NEVER issued. There are two total songs, one on each side, both at 45 rpm. Flip is a nice blues ballad. Guessing this is same era as Hey Hey Pretty Baby which was issued in 1961.

Record: VG+, no cracks or scratches in acetate, a couple of light smudges but grooves are clean. excellent condition. Plays great.
There is a piece of tape with "Dave Dixon" written on it on "Don't Make Me Cry" side, and a small piece of tape that says his name and both track names on the flip.
The offered acetate was acquired from the collection of Steve LaVere. LaVere was a somewhat controversial and legendary figure in the history of American blues music. He was involved in some of the early efforts in the 1960s by the Imperial label to gather historical blues compilations, and he was a key figure in helping the family of blues legend Robert Johnson establish claim to his publishing rights, a process steeped in public and professional contention, to say the least. Along the way, Steve also amassed a large collection of rare and obscure blues and rock and roll records. This acetate was one of several purchased from his collection.
LaVere purchased the "Home of the Blues" label at one point, which issued two singles by Dixon. It's possible this was a planned single or considered for a single that never wound up being issued.
