What we have here technically DOES NOT EXIST and is not supposed to exist. To our best knowledge, the existence of this record-club-only Allman Brothers Band pressing previously has never been substantiated, and none of the price books and guides currently in print make any reference to its existence or background. The historical importance of this item cannot be overestimated.

This version of the Eat a Peach has a distinct beige ‘zodiac’ Eat a Peach label (the same as the original, first pressing) BUT with a pointed reference to the Capitol Records (see the photo of the label) and with a unique Capitol Records catalog number; the cover has CAPITOL RECORDS catalog number stamped on the spine WHICH ALSO RETAINS the original Capricorn Brothers number !!!. Literally and figuratively, a piece of history, not to be missed at any price.

Allman Brothers Band - and Duane Allman, in particular, remain the object of our uncritical veneration and admiration. They were, in our humble opinion, the only WHITE blues performers (notwithstanding their drummer man, J.J. Johansson, who is black) who could really play - and feel - the blues. (The others being Mike Bloomfield, Paul Butterfield, John Hammond, jr., John Mayall, and Graham Bond -- did we miss someone?)  THIS IS THEIR FOURTH ALBUM, AND THE LAST ONE TO INCLUDE DUANE ALLMAN.

·                               THE RECORDS

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new (MINOR SCUFFS NOTED ON 'MOUNTAIN JAM' SIDE, NOT EXPECTED TO BE AUDIBLE)

(b)          The album comes with the original insert still intact.

(c)             The records are  apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / bent (just a beginning of the split seam)
