The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega Planar 3 turntable fitted with an Elys cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. Any significant playing defects will be detailed in the description below. I know how disappointing it is to receive a record graded as excellent, only to find that listening pleasure is spoiled by endless pops, loud clicks and intrusive background crackle. I guarantee that you will not buy such a record from me!!

The winning bidder can expect to receive a clean record, carefully packaged, with the vinyl removed from the inner and outer sleeves to prevent splits in transit.

Here for auction is a superb example of the double album by THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND titled “THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND AT FILLMORE EAST”, Catalogue Number 2659 005. This is an ORIGINAL 1971 UK STEREO *1st PRESSING* on the PLUM/ORANGE ATLANTIC RECORDS LABEL, with an incredibly rare UK MADE MacNEILL PRESS SLEEVE!!

This classic live set from The Allman Brothers Band is reputed to be the last Atlantic plum and orange labelled LP. Only very limited numbers were ever pressed for the UK market (they are so scarce that they are not even listed in 2008 Record Collector). Many of these came with US made thick card sleeves, which are rather coarse and unattractive (in my opinion), compared to the UK made MacNeill Press issue. Not only is this an extremely rare LP, but it is also acknowledged by many to be one of the top ten live recordings of all time. If you haven’t listened to this LP before – you’re in for a real treat. It’s very special!!        

The unlaminated gatefold sleeve, printed in the UK by MacNeill Press Ltd., London, is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. The front and back covers are unmarked, with just a few creases near the opening edges. There are a few minor indentations on the back cover, although these are barely noticeable. The opening gatefold spread is in excellent shape. The top and bottom edges show only the lightest of rubbing in places. The opening edges are undamaged with just a hint of feathering. The corners are still nice and square with only light rubbing. The spine is square and solid with all text clearly legible. There are no rips, stickers or writing. Overall a lovely example of a very rare sleeve!!

Both records are fairly solidly pressed and retain their original lustre.

All 4 sides are visually in EXCELLENT CONDITION with only a few very light surface marks visible under bright light. There is a noticeable rub mark on Track 1 of Side 1. These marks are purely superficial and do not have any audio significance. The labels are unmarked with just a few light spindle traces near the centres. There is barely any wear around the spindle holes.

PLAYGRADE ASSESSMENT:

These are superb quality pressings! The sound quality is particularly loud and vibrant. All 4 sides play to a very high standard. There are no pops or loud clicks, and a minimum of unwanted noise. Several of the tracks have quiet sensitive passages which are easily spoiled by excessive crackle and surface sound. Not on this example – all play beautifully with barely any unwanted noise to spoil the listening experience. A better playing copy may be very difficult to find!!

Complete with white poly-lined inner sleeves which are in very good condition (one has a couple of small nicks to one opening edge).

PLUM AND ORANGE EXAMPLES WITH A MacNEILL PRESS SLEEVE AND NEAR PERFECT PLAYBACK ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIND. IT MAY BE A LONG TIME BEFORE YOU SEE ANOTHER IN SUCH NICE CONDITION!!
