Description

The All Night Workers:Don't Put All Your Eggs In One Basket/Why Don't You Smile (Round Sound/1965)
Mid-60s private lablel release by upstate New York band featuring a song co-written by Lou Reed and John Cale at the very beginning of their Velvet Underground days. This song, Why Don't You Smile, is mid-tempo garage rock with a trancy eastern instrumental backing and a reverby guitar solo. It has a very distinctive proto-VU sound. It is featured on the Mayhem and Psychosis compilation.
Eggs is fast garage soul with a mild horn arrangement.
Fuzz, Acid & Flowers states both songs were written by Reed, Cale, et al, but only the B-side lists them. Jerry Vance, listed as a co-writer, was also listed as music director.
The record looks VG+ (moderate amount of light scuffs & hairlines, no heavier marks), plays VG+ (very light crackling heard under the music; one low pop near the end of Eggs). The labels on both sides are dirty (see scan).
