Description
VERY RARE SOUNDTRACK ALBUM-Based on Shakespeare's OTHELLO, but set in the early 60's jazz world and starring Patrick McGoohan (as the Iago-like drummer, and he really learned to play drums for the role), Marti Stevens and Betsy Blair, this also features onscreen performances by Johnny Dankworth, Dave Brubeck, Charlie Mingus, Johnny Scott and others (both Brubeck and Mingus happened to be in London when the film was shot and were invited to appear). Two Brubeck tunes are included-"It's a Raggy Waltz" and "Blue Shadows in the Street," and one by Dankworth, "Fall Guy." The main bulk of the music was written by Philip Green (Mingus' bass is heard on the title track on side one) and the soundtrack album was produced by Columbia Records jazz expert Teo Macero, who came in after the bulk of the music was recorded and managed to work his magic and make some of the tracks sound less "arranged." This is a rare album and one of the few films to really show jazz the way musicians would appreciate it.
The record is absolutely clean and almost noise free; the jacket is almost pristine, except for some extremely minor wear on the bottom edge and just a smidge of fading on the spine; the inner sleeve is original.
