Description
This is a set of all six variations of the Led Zeppelin In Through the Out Door release from 1980. Finding a complete set of this is an extremely difficult task. One of these is my original copy that I purchased new when the LP came out. The other five I picked up in the mid nineties. Only my original copy and one other have the outer brown paper bag. Nothing differed on it though so it isn't extremely important. Each of the pictures on the album cover depicted the same scene in a bar in which a man burns a dear john letter, and each picture was taken from the separate point of view of someone who appeared in the other photos. All of the photos on the back sides of the covers differed also. They are not pictured here. The design was a pretty cool idea. Not surprising that the cover was designed by well known Pink Floyd (and many others) album cover artist Hipgnosis. The paper bag on the outside was so that you wouldn't know what cover you were getting.
I'm going to give a brief description of the condition of each. I won't be putting a lot of emphasis on grading the records themselves as that is obviously not why you would be interested in the set. My original should still play great because I used to record them onto cassette as soon as I'd get them and rarely play them again. All have been stored in plastic outer sleeves, which will be included, since I've owned them.
Copy 1: The bag has about a 2 inch tear on the left side and is somewhat wrinkled as is almost always the case. There are some light almost transparent spots on the one side. Because of the sepia color of the cover it is not very noticeable and doesn't really distract. There are also very small corner bumps in three corners. Not bad at all but I wanted to mention them. The back cover looks great. Overall I'd say the cover was a nice VG++. The inner sleeve is nice. The labels on the record are perfect and the vinyl has a nice glossy shine. It looks great. I'd call it M-.
Copy 2: The outer bag has a very light stain in the upper right corner, and a real small stain on the back. A very small piece is torn off in the upper left corner and the tear goes down about an inch. The cover looks great and is M-. I am quite sure this was my original copy. The inner sleeve has a couple of very minor small light stains on the back. The labels and vinyl look perfect.
Copy 3: Has slight cover wear at the top center and a very minimal amount in the bottom center. It also has what looks like slight sticker residue in the upper right corner. It is also not very noticeable because of the color of the cover. On the back it has slight wear at the top. A very nice VG+ to VG++. Inner sleeve has a couple of very light stains (possibly fingerprints). Again the vinyl and labels look great. M-
Copy 4: Has a name written on his hat, small bend in bottom right and a very slight amount of wear at the top center. The back also has very slight wear on the top and bottom. This is an RCA Music Service copy. VG+ (would be higher if not for the name on it.) Inner sleeve looks nice. Labels and vinyl look great, M-.
Copy 5: Very faint wear at top center and bottom center. Light sticker residue in upper right corner. Also very faint cover wear in the same places on the back. VG++ Inner sleeve looks nice. This one has some color. Another unique design by Hipgnosis that is not well-known on this release is that if you lightly put a small amount of water on the inner sleeve, it would turn colors and be permanent. It's really quite cool! The labels look great and the vinyl has a nice shine. This one may not play quite as nice as the others but it should still be at least VG++ if not better.
Copy 6: Has wear at top center and bottom center and some light bends in the bottom left and top right. The back cover has wear in the same areas and light bends in both bottom corners. It's a nice VG+ to VG++. The inner sleeve has some color to it. It also has some stains and a little less than an inch of split at the top left. The vinyl has a nice shine and the labels are perfect. I'd grade the record as VG++ to M-.
