Description

ALICE COOPER, pretties for you

STS 1051 DJ white label

Alice Cooper's first album, 1969.

This is a white label, promotional copy of the album.

Side One:  Titanic Overture, Ten Minutes Before the Worm, Sing Low, Sweet Cheerio, Today Mueller, Living, Fields of Regret

Side Two:  No Longer Umpire, Levity Ball [Live], B.B. on Mars, Reflected, Apple Bush, Earwigs to Eternity, Changing Arranging

This record was visually graded under a very strong light. As a guideline for the final grading I use the Goldmine Standard.  The vinyl is so much more than VG+ condition; Goldmine would say NM;  there is no sign of ever being on a spindle.  However the white inside sleeve is yellowed and split open open a few inches on one edge.  The cover has some scuffed corners and the inside of the gatefold album shows a hint of ring wear; not noticeable unless looking for it.  The front of the cover has a sticker "PROMOTION - Not For Sale"

“Very Good Plus (VG+):  (Some would call this Excellent).  Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don’t affect one’s listening experience.  The center hole will have not been misshapen by repeated play.  The jacket may have some signs of wear and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner.  Scratches may be deep enough to feel with a fingernail.”

My husband worked in radio for many, many years in several markets. I believe that he is most remembered from the Pittsburgh, PA radio market in the 60’s where he did the first underground music radio show as Brother Love, one of the most colorful and creative characters in broadcasting history as quoted in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

While working behind the scenes at WAMO, which was a popular soul and R&B format, he saw potential in the growing psychedelic rock music scene. He broke from the station's format one evening a week, giving Pittsburgh a taste of the San Francisco and early psychedelic music scene. During these weekly radio freak-outs, Brother Love introduced listeners to Iron Butterfly, Country Joe and the Fish, Mothers of Invention, Jimi Hendrix and early Doors, to name a few. The show pioneered in playing adventurous music, some of which would become the backbone of FM album rock stations for decades..

As you can imagine, he collected many, many vinyl records over the years in radio. We toted his record collection around the country with us for many years. He lived a full and wonderful life, enjoying the work he did and the people he met. We lost him to leukemia in May. He was a beautiful person and we all miss him terribly. However. he had a dream of taking his 4 grandchildren on a trip before he got sick. It never happened. So, I want to fulfill his dream by auctioning his albums (he asked me to do this), and, then take a trip that he dreamed of the past few years since his retirement. I will list his LP albums and 45s as I can research and do leg work, so look for other auctions.
