ALEXIS KORNER'S BLUES INCORPORATED - R & B from the MARQUEE

An increasingly rare and sought after copy of this 1962 UK 1st pressing R&B/Blues classic on the maroon ACE of CLUBS record label, MONO ACL 1130

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  ARL - 5605 - 1B with stampers "1" and "11" at  8.30 o'clock and 2.30 o'clock respectively

Side 2  ARL - 5606 - 1B with stampers "1" and "C" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

The all important 1st pressing "K T" tax code is also machine stamped onto the side 1 deadwax area at 11.30 o'clock

The appearance of the vinyl is excellent+. This is heavy duty, completely flat vinyl and still retaining it's original beautiful glossy and jet black lacquered sheen. Under a bright light it's just possible to pick out just a few very fine, small wispy hairlines and a small area of very light scuffing on track 2 side 2 but these are strictly surface only, only just detectable under a bright light and certainly do not detract from the wonderful audio quality. Truly excellent, which is remarkable considering this vinyl's 57 year antiquity!

The labels are excellent. All of the silver text and the maroon matt background remain beautifully intact, with a few faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre whole on each label. 

The front laminated Robert Stace outer sleeve is VG. All edges, including the spine, remain rigid and with no scuffing or rubbing at all - remarkable! And the same can be said for the corners, which remain nicely defined right angles with minimal rubbing only. There is some sporadic and light (but clearly noticeable) laminate creasing on the front side and some small areas of laminate lifting adjacent to the spine. The reverse side has some sporadic, light age discolouration which is a little more pronounced towards the top edge on the left side (see photo), but there is no creasing and all text remains perfectly intact and legible. 

And, of course there is the wonderful, hand written "Best Wishes Alexis Korner" signature/autograph: all I can say about it's authenticity is that a previous owner got the signature after Alexis Korner appeared in concert in Ipswich, England in the late 1960's - whether it was the Alexis Korner Blues Incorporated band or Alexis Korner making a guest appearance for another band I do not know. Certainly, when comparing the signature to wholly authenticated Alexis Korner signatures that I have seen on the internet, it is absolutely 100% spot on!

Finally, the quality of the audio is excellent (at least). There is wonderful tone and clarity throughout and with no distortion, even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. No skips or clicks (apart from two very mild consecutive clicks on track 1, side 1 for which I can find no obvious cause) and no background crackle (except just a little faint background crackle which lasts for about a minute mid way through track 2 side 1) - wonderful, with every track making for a great listen.

Comes with original "Handle with great care" poly lined inner sleeve with no splits, tears or fraying - just some very mild age discolouration and some mild creasing at the bottom corners. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a lovely copy of this increasingly rare and  sought after 1962 UK 1st MONO pressing R&B classic, with truly excellent audio quality and made all the more collectable by virtue of the great man's signature beautifully written in blue ink on the reverse side of the outer sleeve - a worthy addition to any vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl strong cardboard crucifix mailer along with at least two further cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
