This is a Six Album 12-inch FIRST STEREO PRESSING DEEP GROOVE LP BOX SET! [This box set originally included seven albums but the LP "American Folk Songs For Children" is missing from this copy. One could argue that the remaining six albums offer the essential and required recordings of this musical odyssey.]
Of the six albums I am offering, five are Still Sealed and one is opened and in Pristine Mint condition! There is no booklet in the opened copy and I don't know if booklets were included in these Stereo pressings, or not. The box itself is in Excellent condition [with some scuffs in bottom corners, 1-inch seam split in top of left corner, complete seam split on top back edge and 3-inch seam split on upper right edge of back cover.  a shadow from my camera tri-pod is visible in the lower left corner of box and across the Sounds Of The South LP cover.]

ALAN LOMAX from the liner notes: "I have been recording Folk Music of the world for over 25 years, and in the summer of 1959 I returned to my native South with Hi-Fi Stereo equipment to offer the singers of mountain, bayou, prison and cotton patch the best of modern sound technology.
In a two-month tour which took me from Virginia through the middle South, to the Ozarks and back to the Georgia Sea Islands, I found proof enough that the South still holds a rich heritage of musical tradition and continues to produce new Folk music. Many new songs were found. Three instruments previously unknown to American Folk song were discovered--the mouth-bow, the cane fife and the primitive panpipes.
The whole collection is a testament to the Folk tradition of the Southern states where the country folk--Negro and white--continue to sing the deep songs of our country."
