Description

This auction is for a copy of
Alan Freed's
12" LP - German release
"Rock 'n' Roll Dance Party"
with Alan Freed and his Rock 'n' Roll Band,
featurning the Modernaires
Coral 97 008 LCPM, Mono, 1957.
Manufactured in Germany by Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft.

Vinyl = VG++.
Vinyl is incredibly heavy (reminiscent of an old 78RPM record) and excellent quality.
Sounds great, especially on a mono turntable!
Bright, glossy shine with a few hardly visible scuffs. Clean bright labels.
"Made in Germany" in dead wax.
Jacket=VG++.
Overall, the jacket is beautiful, especially considering its age. All writing in English, except for one paragraph of fine print on the back cover which says, "For Germany Only". Thin laminated cardboard, top opening format with (get this!) sewn side seams (see pic), orange thread on front, white on back (talk about detail!). Slight edge wear and a few small creases, but the seams themselves including the bottom fold, are totally intact.
The LP was originally sealed with a single piece of factory tape across the top, but (as on most of the few copies we've seen) when it was removed, unfortunately it took a piece of the slick with it. In the pics, you can see the tape damage to the top front center, and the other half of the tape on the back cover. Printed on the tape is "To remove seal, peel tape carefully starting from corner," but either the glue was too stong, or else most everyone was so excited to play the record that they didn't read the instructions and just ripped into it.
Tiny (1/8" or less) piece of the orange part of the front slick also missing, and old, faded white price sticker on back, right side.
Includes rare Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft insert, which (although I don't know German) I think gives detailed recommendations for handling, cartridge to use, and correct "utilization" and conservation of discs.
Plain inner sleeve.

Tracks:
Right Now, Right Now
The Great Pretender
The Grey Bear
The Camel Rock
Take One
Teener's Canteen
Rock 'n' Roll Boogie
Only You
Up and Down
Slow Boat To Monaco
See You Later, Alligator
Teen Rock

Featuring Tenor Saxophone Stars: Big Al Sears, Sam "The Man" Taylor, and Freddie Mitchell.

Now listen up, boys and girls. For all you "young 'uns" who think that "Early Rock 'n Roll" includes bands like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin and cuts off around 1980, I've got news for you! Alan Freed was a radio DJ and more importantly da man who originated the phrase "Rock 'n Roll",  in the 1950's. This record IS "Early Rock 'n Roll", the rhythm & blues (liner notes indicate that rock 'n' roll was the 'pop' name for this genre) which Allan Freed was playing then, that became the daddy/grandaddy of the majority of 60's, 70's, 80's rock music, on up through today.

I won't even go into how rare it is to even find an original copy of this recording, much less in such excellent condition - and an import as well!

We've set a low starting bid price to encourage lots of action, with a modest reserve, based on the rareness of the piece.  However, the reserve is slightly lower than the price (based on our research) which the last comparable copy sold for in 2006, because we DO want someone to win this great item.

Happy bidding and Good Luck!

We recently purchased several hundred pieces of quality vinyl (titles & condition) from the estate of a used vinyl dealer, so be sure to check our other current and future listings for more unique rock imports as well as other kewl vinyl goodies!
