Description
format: vinyl LP record album
This is, of course, ALABAMA.... known then as The Alabama Band, in the transition between their Wildcountry days and their fame as Alabama. Includes the song "My Home's In Alabama". Original 1978 rare private label pressing. Alabama Records, # ALA-78-9-01. The story goes that only 500 copies were pressed, and shortly afterward when they signed with RCA, the remaining copies and the masters were destroyed. I believe these Lps were ONLY ever sold at their club shows at the Bowery; the previous owner bought it there after seeing them play and meeting them.
THE BAND THAT RECORDED THE ALBUM, AND IS CREDITED ON THE COVER, WAS JEFF COOK, RANDY OWEN, TEDDY GENTRY AND RICK SCOTT (DRUMS). SHORTLY AFTERWARD (1979), THE DRUMMER WAS REPLACED WITH MARK HERNDON, TO MAKE THE CLASSIC ALABAMA LINEUP. THIS LP IS SIGNED ON THE FRONT COVER BY RANDY, JEFF AND... MARK! WHICH TO ME MAKES IT EVEN MORE INTERESTING. RANDY ALSO WROTE "for Buffalo, N.Y. Thanks" (THE PREVIOUS OWNER WAS FROM MY AREA, WESTERN NY). JEFF DREW A FACE OVER THE 'O's IN 'COOK'.
The signatures are, of course, fully guaranteed to be authentic. In addition, they're great! Unlike some sloppy signatures, these are pretty clean and clear. (This cover would be perfect for framing).
So....... signatures are Near Mint. Front and back panels are basically Near Mint too, or very close. The spine is good with no splits. Top seam is perfect except for the last two inches by the opening, which are neatly split (no torn paper, repairable). The bottom seam has some wear and there is a seam split on the bottom center, 3 to 4 inches; again, it's mostly just a paper split without excess fraying, so it's repairable. There is also some wear and the beginnings of a split where the bottom edge meets the opening. As is, these split seams aren't visible whatsoever when it's inside the plastic sleeve I placed it in. The record itself is basically VG, though it's probably better to just describe it: it looks like it wasn't played very much - still has all of it's original gloss - VERY glossy - but it did get quite a few scuffs and some scratches along the way. It looks like the owner left it out of it's sleeve for a party or something, and it got scratched. One of the scratches is deep enough to feel and it does make some ticks, though they're not loud. Other than that there's some crackles here and there but they don't intrude on the music, not constant noise by any means. They pressed these LPs on lower-quality vinyl, so I believe they all sound a little less than perfect anyway. I'd grade the sound quality as VG+. The labels are Near Mint.
