Brahms: A German Requiem 2xLP ACETATE
Original 1955 US private pressing on Audio Devices, Inc. (New York NY) (catalog # NONE, METAL ACETATE, two double-sided 12" discs, 33 1/3RPM, each side has Audio Devices label with the date "Mar 6 1955" written in), with two original "audiodiscs" paper sleeves.Here is a one-of-a-kind double-LP audiodisc acetate recording of a March 6, 1955, performance of Brahms' "A German Requiem" for orchestra and chorus.
Unfortunately there is no documentation of which orchestra, conductor or soloists perform here, or where it was recorded. So those details remain a mystery. Perhaps, with research, knowledge of the date alone (March 6, 1955) could be enough to determine the orchestra. Or a trained ear might be able to identify the soloists.
This very well could be the sole remaining copy of a forgotten 1955 performance, I just do not have enough information to go on. I'm happy to try to answer any questions I can about these acetates.
CONDITION: / Vinyl VG+ vinyl is excellent, clean, with very light wear, these have not seen much play at all, there a few light surface scratches, these look better than VG+ but I hesitate to grade them higher because of the normal caveats about acetates and their sound quality... the passages I sampled played perfectly fine, with a little expected surface noise but nothing to prevent at least one clean and enjoyable playback. Graded conservatively using Goldmine standards [G / G+ / VG / VG+ / NM / ]grade only used if record is brand new.
