" LOVE'S A FIRE " b/w "VOODOO DOLL" ..|/\|...............................................|/\|.. USA - REGENT SOUND STUDIO (ACETATE)
MEGA RARE 1967 Original "Regent Sound Studios" 10" ACETATE (basically the size reflects as a w-i-d-e groove pressing delivering a sharp piercing audio)
Apparently there were two Acetates cut for the Werps "Love's A Fire" and three versions altogether. The 45 release had horns which many fans appreciate and prefer over the slower "Studio '76" acetate with no horns. The Regent Sound Studios acetate (this listing) is the faster intense version with no horns and maintains a really sharp in-your-face recording, the fuzz & shout vocals cutting like a razor...
The Werps local released 45 for the WGW label of Somerville, New Jersey in 1967. People who think horns have no place in garage songs dislike “Love’s a Fire”, but many think the horns help the sense of mayhem, and the soloing over the drum rolls. There’s really no other record from any era quite like this one. However - there clearly is no better version than the Regent Sound Studios acetate which attains all the intensiveness of the WGW 45 mix dropping the horns and raising the fuzz/organ to the forefront in order to supplant the horn work.
Tim Warren made a huge effort to get a version without the horns for Back from the Grave vol. 6, but wound up with the slower Studio 76 take without the shouting and intensity of the 45 that dissatisfied many.
The flip of the acetate is another cool (((UNRELEASED))) original, “Voodoo Doll”, subdued but also intense, and possibly inspired by Arthur Lee’s “Signed, D.C.”
CONDITION: rated: 10 inch heavy-weight platter has oxidation (discoloration from 50 years of age) but has no bearing on the sharp audio sound on either side...rather the audio is very impressive... rate as VG+ visual = playing with excellent sharp audio ...(no dreaded groove wear!) ... both labels are clean with age discoloration (see photos)
A cool addition to anyone's music library!
