AC/DC Highway to Hell (Albert Productions APLP.040) Probably 1979 SEALED
For those of you who are after a 1979 pressing, please read the first paragraph below and do not bid if you don't acknowledge that I cannot confirm this is a first pressing. It could be a 1980 or '82 repress. It is definitely not a later repress. Thank you.
From my own collection. I have assumed for many years that this is a first pressing, based on the Discogs entry for the 1979 release. It matches all the photos of the front and back covers and spine. It also matches the catalog number format under the "Notes" section: back cover has APLP.040 and the spine has AP LP.040 (with a space between "AP" and "LP.040"). But again, I cannot say definitively that this is a first pressing.
The history of this record
I special-ordered this at a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, record store called Eide's on December 30, 1983. The hand-written receipt is in the photos, but that is not included in this auction. (You'll see that I ordered "Let There Be Rock" at the same time. "Crabsody in Blue" blew my young, Bon Scott-addicted brain. That said, this is the only AC/DC record I'm selling.)
Back in those days, Eide's was a small shop on Pittsburgh's North Side, and I'd go once a month or so to see what imports or bootlegs I could find. When I found out they would order records from other countries, I asked about Australia and before I knew it, I was one of the few people who had all those pressings with different cover art and many songs that didn't become available in the States, really, until "Jailbreak '74" was released in October 1984. It was awesome.
So, I've had this for roughly 42 years and, obviously, never opened it, mainly because it didn't have any non-U.S. tracks on it. It is sealed and still has an $8.99 price tag on the shrink wrap. (When I picked up the album, I asked the clerk why they had put a price tag on it after I had already paid for it. He did not know.) The shrink wrap was never tight around the album; instead, it's a little loose, which you can see in the photos.
