FREEDOM
A limited edition ORIGINAL 1961 double
record album issued by the Congress of
Racial Equality (CORE) as a means of raising
funds for Freedom Riders and Voter Registration
drives run by its 76 national chapters.
It includes a letter from the Founder and
National Director of C.O.R.E., James Farmer.
Larry Fox, "The Button Man" was an active
member of National CORE and Long Island (NY)
CORE who worked closely with James Farmer
to publicize and promote Civil Rights actions
and activities. Included on the album are selections
from 31 different artists. The album sold for $5.00
in 1961. As Jim Farmer states in his letter's conclusion.
"Let there be no mistake...as Jim Peck and Jim Lawson
sang, on the Freedom Rides of 1961, as they rode toward
the tear gas and bicycle chains of Birmingham, Alabama,
"WE SHALL OVERCOME..."
The album cover is in Good condition with no
damage. There are minor scratches on the back cover.
Front cover and the two inside covers are in Excellent
condition. The actual records are basically unused.
