If you don't know this amazing slice of 1969 L.A. studio psych wizardry, it's a pioneering blend of acid insanity, fuzz, special effects, irresistible pop hooks, and flashes of folk and country as well. A work of genius and probably my personal fave psych obscurity on Capitol.
Offered here is a genuine 2-sided ACETATE, found in a pile of Capitol 1960s acetates (I have another, even heavier beast to unleash from this stash soon!)
I did an A/B/C test running the acetate, an original vinyl copy and the Rev-Ola CD reissue all at once and, not surprisingly, the acetate trounced the competition in terms of volume and overall presence.
Sonically, it plays VG++, with some annoying crackle during the soft introduction on side A, which builds in volume until the crackle is drowned out. There is a low level of surface noise throughout both sides of the acetate BUT it's only audible between some songs and during SOME softer parts of the music. When the band is wailing away, the noise is pretty much drowned out completely.
Visually, it's fairly rough-looking, with lots of scratches (mostly light, but not all,) scuffs and marks. No skips or sticks and no heavy "clickers."
It plays nice and ballsy and you will enjoy blasting it!
