(9LP) CINQ CONCERTS DE DUKE ELLINGTON (1959-1973).

Cinq concerts de Duke Ellington et son orchestre enregistrés lors de ses tournées européennes.

A Paris Salle Pleyel en 1959, au Théâtre de l’Olympia en 1963.

En Grande Bretagne en 1969, 1971 et 1973.

Le concert de 1959 nous présente un répertoire très classique.

Le concert de 1963 est certainement un des plus brillants de cette époque, on y trouve principalement une interprétation complète de « Suite Thursday» suite en quatre mouvements créée en 1960 et « Tone parallel to Harlem » magnifique suite créée elle en 1950.

Le concert de 1969 nous présente quelques créations nouvelles « 4.30 blues », « Laying on mellow », « In triplicate ». Il faut noter la présence de l’organiste Wild Bill Davis pour quelques titres.

Le concert de 1971 nous présente une nouvelle suite en quatre mouvements « Togo Brava-Brava Togo » et aussi « La plus belle africaine », « Addi », « Happy Reunion »….

Le concert de 1973 est le dernier enregistré par Duke Ellington, il fût d’ailleurs édité après sa mort. Ellington reprend des interprétations de quelques grands classiques « Creole love call », « Tiger rag », « Basin street blues », mais aussi quelques œuvres récentes dont « Woods» reconnu plus tard comme étant « Soso », extrait de la Togo Brava.
