Description
A collection of nine 7 inch acetates which were formerly the property of Cilla Black. The discs were given to Cilla by her publishers to help the singer decide whether to cover the respective song or not. Cilla subsequently gave the acetates to a close family relative. Details of the acetates are as follows:
‘I Can’t Stop Loving You’ – Count Basie & Orchestra – Emidisc.
‘Contagious’ - M. Hill - Dick James Music.
‘What Is Your Pleasure?’ – Tony Anthony – Kendersong Discs.
‘This Empty Place’ – Dionne Warwick - white label.
‘I’m Not Alone Anymore’ – Kenny Lynch - white label.
‘Look What You’ve Done To Me’ - unknown artist - Emidisc.
‘People’ – Barbara Streisand - The Music Centre.
‘Bye Bye Brown Eyes’ - unknown artist - Emidisc
‘Her Little Heart Went To Loveland’ - unknown artist - KPM Music.
The condition is good. Some better than others, I have only played each one once to preserve them.
Provenance: originally consigned to The Beatles Shop Annual Auction by a close relative of Cilla’s. I purchased them from Tracks, and they come with a COA.
I purchased these with the intent of keeping them in my personal collection but unforeseen circumstances have forced me to sell some gems from my collection.
Cilla Black and The Beatles shared a close friendship and professional relationship, beginning in the early 1960s in Liverpool. Cilla, a talented singer, was introduced to the Beatles by their manager, Brian Epstein. She became a close friend of the band, and particularly of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The Beatles often supported her career, with Lennon and McCartney writing her hit single "Step Inside Love," which was released in 1968.
Cilla also worked with Brian Epstein, who managed her early career, and she frequently socialized with the Beatles, appearing at their concerts and spending time with them. Their bond was built on mutual respect, with the Beatles admiring Cilla’s talent and personality. Professionally, Cilla found success in her own right, becoming one of the most popular singers and TV personalities in the UK during the 1960s and 1970s.
While the Beatles were often busy with their individual projects, their friendship with Cilla remained strong, and they were supportive of each other throughout their careers.
