8 TRACK Velvet Underground ARCHETYPES = the White Light / White Heat lp TESTED

my oh my, oh my oh my oh my

yes, this is MGM's 1974 reconfiguration of the beyond-classic 1968 WHITE LIGHT / WHITE HEAT album
check the track order -- whoa. 

the only thing that could have made this "perfect 10" album ever better, would have been if they could have hired Sherman and Peabody to jump the timeline, come back with Murder Mystery's 1/4" master tape mixdown, and ding ding ding, jackpot, the White Light / White Heat album would even have the following year's white-noise-classic Murder Mystery on it. 

HERE on this 8 track cart, i'm not crazy about its remastered audio here (compared to the original vinyl mastering) -- it's a little muddy.  or the high end doesn't have as much "bite" as i would like.  but i'm not going to pick nits at a decent (again, check the track order!  like whoa) revamping of one of the best albums of the 60's, the 70's, hell, of the entire century.  (maybe this one too). 

WONDERING:  not that any of those 1974 MGM "Archetypes" issues sold many copies, but the vinyl issue of this (back during the 70's and then the next two or three decades after that) sure never crossed my trolling of a half-billion thrift store albums /  / $1 record store understock / and used bins proper -- very often.  soo, oh right, i wonder how many copies were actually sold of it?  5,000? 

sub-footnote, fwiw:  yes, i'm the guy (shortly after moving out to hollywood from texas, and taking up two years' residence at the old and long-gone "triplex" (of a pretty big 2-story house, easily 2,000 sq ft i would guess))
who poking around a stand-alone small record store on the north side of hollywood blvd, "discovered" the in-sane SOUNDSVILLE comp (on Pickwick) that has Cycle Annie and You're Driving Me Insane (and not one, but, sealed, a full dozen-plus copies of it, at 10c).  ha and i even spent off-duty typewriter time a few mnths later writing up two whole fanzine pages on it, ha (it's on pgs 6 and 7, somewhere in the pdf of the whole 16 pg 1974 fanzine, below)

 the additional scans here (attached) of about 120 "$5 tapes" (a few of them in the scans have disappeared/sold).   I will probably wind up posting them up (all of them) as a "quantity discount" listing --

(in other words, which means = buy three (or four) for $5, and get one more free =
 which =  buy 4 / $19.98 (means that the fourth tape is one dollar off, at $4, so = $5 + $5 + $5 + $4 + one free = 5 for $18.98)
 or  BUY 3 / $14.98 (buy three at $5, and get one more free) 

AGAIN, NOTE: I CAN PUT TOGETHER A pre-arranged fixed-price (that only the buyer will recognize in its disguised format, i.e. a pre-arranged set-sale total that's they can punch in as a "best offer," i accept it, ding dong, transaction completed on the day that they tell me to post it up) (any size of three tapes or more, plus the free one for each three or four) --
 for anyone that needs three or more of them (in any quantity of them, with the same discounts 'rolling forward').  selling just one or two of them at $5 -- nah.  people with bigger 'want lists" or "i want this" lists will get serviced first!

SO HERE is the example of how that works.  hahaha!  i even hide a picture(s)/scans of the ones they're buying, some ten deep into the Starday trucker-comp and kpop gg (girl group) photos (counting the K-Pop Gang from Trolls World Tour, who were, duh, in real-world time the super popular 3rd-biggest gg since their 2015 rookie year, Red Velvet)  -- in this case, the buyer's big item, a $40 super clean copy of the Ramones' End of the Century album plus four more tapes from the $5 tapes) --

the last picture here (if i remember to load it) is kinda-famous-finally actress/musician Brie Larson (captain marvel, remember?  the one who saves Iron Man and basically by that act sets "saving the Marvel Universe" in motion) (if you do not remember her fairly-awesome indie-rockstar frontman/lead-singer-ex-girlfriend-from-hell role in Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, then i will have to remove your semi-clueless name from the year 2022 never-ending house party  guest list) -- (this picture) back at the age of 17 or 18  (a writer friend of mine did a looong interview with her back then --

 (after her major-label 1st album which had tanked, but also talking about the 2nd one which was 'stalled' in the "rejected demos" stage that she was writing/recording/demo'ing and sure enough it never did happen -- anyway that super-long interview  being not just about her literary-fanzine ("Bunnies and Traps") but also in depth about her super-fan music fan background and her (stillborn, basically, as far as the major label couple of years went) "MUSICAL" career that hadn't quite hit the abort point yet -- it probably still comes up (ED -- it did, see above) re his column "Sugar Shack" on the stylusmagazine.com music website,  where he was in the process of eventually writing about long fifteen columns and 100,000,000 words about the years 1999 - 2006/07's "teenpop" genre, until (dave bailed on the genre after) radio disney and their in-house label Hollywood Records just castrated it (big-picture-wise and especially per the genre's market age-demographics) --

just in time (did i say the year 2007?  i did) for -- wait for it -- literally hundreds and hundreds and still more hundreds (since 2007 on out, ramping crazy from 2009 into infinity) -- of --

KPOP GIRL GROUPS TO TAKE OVER THE POP MUSIC WORLD  good songs, bad songs, everything inbetween  (gaga made a flailing attempt for 'musical cred' by inserting herself into the recent new Blackpink single and MV, and oh jeez, it's just embarrassing (lady gaga's half of it, esp in the MV).  the B/P half just stinks, same as their last single Kill This Love but what would i know?  i hate almost 100% of all american-based pop music (save billie elish and her brother, duh) since like 2012, so whatevs.  (the first four Blackpink singles were "perfect 10's," perhaps the first such in post-1964 pop music history, but Du-Du-Du-Du was ehhhhhh nowhere near a "10," and man i just H A T E D their Kill This Love stinkbomb.  love the group, love Teddy Park (when he's on his game) (c.f. Jean Somi's post-I.O.I. debut solo single/MV "Birthday," which very disappointingly peaked out at only #22/Kor, but damn if it wasn't awesome (about a year ago), but i hate on lots of songs and the last two Blackpink singles are right in there.  (the gaga 'collab' is so awful in the MV, you seriously never ever ever want to see it, if you ever enjoyed even 1/2 of the "arguably the greatest dance/pop album ever made," i.e. the Fame/Fame Monster 2lp debut.  just really realllly HORRIBLE.  i almost threw up it's so bad.  almost as bad as early 90's?  Madonna when her "i'm so sexy, ooh look i'm half naked" trope was way past a "didn't you do this a dozen times before?" stale date.

in conclusion:  buy this nifty (sounds really good) 8-track and help turn the American New Depression economy around!

NOTE: THE "TESTING" routine that i use for anything in 8tk that gets posted/ebay, etc --

"TESTED" = means = i use a Pioneer H - R99 deck, which is the runnerup (to a Pioneer H-R100) for the supposed "gold standard" of great sounding, mass-produced mid-70's name brand 8tk stereo-component decks (per audio) (mine is too snotty to associate with the mis-mash of thrift store 80's name brand components over in the amp / cassette deck / speakers (big Altec floor speakers, $20 back around 1986?  at the old long-gone livermore Salvation Army.  and with "that 70's show" type Sony "bookshelf " speakers stacked on top of them, like giant mid-range-y tweeters).

soo -- to test any 8Tks (like these here), i'll put the 8tk into the deck with the Play function on PAUSE.  then let it go, and play Tk1 for bout 10 seconds, then ka-ching "program" move it to Tk 2 for its 10 second test, ka-ching into Tk 3 repeat/same, and finish the test with ka-ching into Tk 4 repeat/same.  then hit PAUSE and pull the 8Tk out.
 (depending on the manufacture/era of any particular 8tk cart, some 8tks' audio can "wobble" a little bit and i have no way of telling whether that is the occasional real-time occasional vagarities of this Pioneer deck's loading angles (as opposed to the tape itself).  anyone who's dealt with numerous different makes/brand of 8tk playback decks will be well familiar with this sub-phenomenon)

duly noted:  i dunno if other Pioneer R99's or R100's are like mine, but my Pioneer R99 is ReALLy tempermental when it comes to any Tk8 cart(ridge)s that are a little "tight" (meaning the space between the roller-wheel and the cart).  soo if i hear anything "weird" in the first three seconds of "play" (in testing) after i've unlocked the deck (from "pause") into the play function -- i'll hit the PAUSE button again, and pull the 8tk tape right out.  and the tape gets a "fail / not for sale."
