Description


From a large early blues collection once owned by Lou Black, banjo player in the 1920s and 30s....who played with some famous groups in Chicago including the New Orleans Rhythm Kings.

I just cleaned this 78 on my Ultrasonic Record cleaner.  It really gets the grime out and only uses water. 

I will give you a visual description as well as an audible one.  My player is a cheap Crosley reproduction for 78's, so you may have better sound with a better rig set up for 78's.  The needle feels very heavy...probably several grams at least of pressure.  It also plays 45s and 33s so I don't think it has a specialized needle just for 78s.  This is the only playback I have available for 78s.  I do not have the ability to do sound files either. 

VISUAL:  This one is rough shape.  It is grey and filled with marks. It has a fresh new crack that the ultrasonic cleaner will be responsible for about 10% of the time--probably not the best way to clean fragile 78s, but i figure it probably had some kind of underlying stress crack anyhow and this just completed it.  Spindle hole has been blasted with a lot of play.  
 
AUDIO: It plays all the way thru and is flat. Lots of background noise...it almost drowns out the recording on my player.  Crack ticks on playback.  Alberta Blues side plays better than the flip side.  A decent player...
