Artist: Pinewood Tom (Joshua White)
Released: 1936
Titles and Condition:
Side A: Silicosis Is Killing Me,  E+ Side B: No More Ball and Chain, E+
Description:  Offered in a crisp, non-original sleeve
Perfect mirror-like finish, barely played, from Seattle physician’s 1940’s record collection. Early 1936 recording of Josh White (1914-1969) first solos, billed as Pinewood Tom. Shortly after the period, from 7 years old until 21 years old, in which he learned his blues skills, carrying guitars and backing up Blind Man Arnold, Blind Blake and other blues legends.
Gritty blues, long before Josh White’s more polished activist recordings in the 50’s.
Plays 2 fine acoustic blues tracks loud and clear, with almost zero surface noise. One cannot find a better quality example of this original recording, short of documented NOS.
Grading is VJM (Vintage Jazz Market, based on visual and play grading, using a Shure cartridge with 78 stylus.
N or N- = Unplayed, like new (category not used to avoid making unprovable claims)
E+ = A perfect copy with only minor signs of previous playing
E = Shiny! Minimal, slight signs of wear, such as small sleeve scuffs or a light scratch.
E- = Still shiny, minor groove wear, light scratches. Plays well, and an above average copy.
V+ = Average, even wear. Duller finish with scuffs and scratches, still plays well.
V = Moderate wear, playable, with surface noise and scratches audible.
V- = Playable, but with distortion in loud passages, surface noise & scratches intrusive.
G+ = Plays through.
G = Looks OK at a distance.
P = Resembles a record.
