Description
Offered here is V Disc 535. It was pressed by the Columbia Record Company for V Disc. The labels are stamped "Chaplain's Office / U.S.S. PORTLAND / Fleet Post Office / San Francisco, California". It features the song at the end of Avengers: End Game - "IT'S BEEN A LONG, LONG TIME".
When this record was released in November, 1945, the war in the Pacific was winding down and the U.S.S. Portland was transporting GIs home from the war. I suspect this played a bunch of times on those voyages.
This is the very same recording that was released on Columbia 36838 recorded July 24, 1945 and used at the end of the Avengers: End Game movie, here recorded to V Disc for the GIs to enjoy. Also on this record is another Harry James tune - "AUTUMN SERENADE". The flip side features Benny Goodman playing "I'M GONNA LOVE THAT GUY" vocal by Dottie Reid and "CLARINADE".
To recap, this is an important WWII item, an excellent copy of a hard to find V Disc record, features the song from the movie Avengers: End game, and 3 other top tunes of the period. The labels are stamped with the U.S.S. Portland identification and it was issued during a time when that ship was bringing soldiers home from war. It had truly been a long, long time, for them and their sweethearts.
